Time Period: Unknown, but likely to be many millions of years in duration, as confirmed by star distances.
Key Events: The First Age began with the creation of the heavens and the earth (i.e. the universe), which marked the beginning of time and the beginning of God's Plan of the Ages. (Genesis 1:1)
All of the angels sang together and shouted for joy over the creation of the earth. It follows, therefore, that the angels were created before the earth was created. (Job 38:4-7) Also, the earth must have been created in a beautiful and perfect state for the angels to shout for joy. Actually, God created the earth in a garden-like state teeming with Pre-Adamic plant and animal life. (Ezekiel 28:13)
Lucifer was a leading angel in the Pre-Adamic garden on this earth, but he became proud and coveted the throne of God. He led a rebellion, convincing a third of the angels to support him. The Bible says that a war broke out in heaven between the holy angels led by Michael and the fallen angels led by Lucifer, who became Satan.
The rebellious angels were violently thrown back down to earth, with a cataclysmic upheaval of the earth's surface, described in the Bible as the earth becoming chaotic, void, thrown into darkness, without form and totally flooded. (Genesis 1:2)
