But the heavens (ouranos) and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
Please note, in the verse above, that the Greek word ouranos is incorrectly translated by NKJV translators into its plural form 'heavens' instead of its singular form 'heaven'. Plural 'heavens', in the Bible, refers to the whole universe, but singular 'heaven', depending on the context, refers to either the earth's atmosphere or God's current dwelling place, located somewhere in the universe. On the Day of Judgement, the Great White Throne Judgement Day, only the earth with its atmosphere will be on fire and not the whole universe.
