Heathen Ideas Of Hell

During all the time that generations following generations of Jews were entertaining the ideas taught in these sixty-four passages, the surrounding heathen believed in future, endless torment. The literature is full of it. Says Good in his Book of Nature It was believed in most countries 'that this Hell, Hadees, or invisible world, is divided into two very distinct and opposite regions, by a broad and impassable gulf that the one is a seat of happiness, a paradise or elysium, and the other a seat of misery, a Gehenna or Tartarus and that there is a supreme magistrate and an impartial tribunal belonging to the infernal shades, before which the ghosts must appear, and by which they are sentenced to the one or the other, according to the deeds done in the body. Egypt is said to have been the inventress of this important and valuable part of the tradition and undoubtedly it is to be found in the earliest records of Egyptian history.' It should be observed that Gehenna was not used before...

The Christian Idea Of Hell

The place thou saw'st was Hell the groans thou heard'st Buckle, in his Civilization in England, thus sums up the popular doctrine In the pictures which they drew, they reproduced and heightened the barbarous imagery of a barbarous age. They delighted in telling their hearers that they would be roasted in great fires and hung up by their tongues. They were to be lashed with scorpions, and see their companions writhing and howling around them. They were to be thrown into boiling oil and scalding lead. A river of brim-stone broader than the earth was prepared for them in that they were to be immersed. . . Such were the first stages of suffering, and they were only the first. For the torture besides being unceasing, was to become gradually worse. So refined was the cruelty, that one Hell was succeeded by another and, lest the sufferer should grow callous, he was, after a time, moved on, that he might undergo fresh agonies in fresh places, provision being made that the torment should not...

God Loves Everyone is Straight from Satan and the Most Damning Concept Known to

God loves everyone is straight from the mind of Satan and his ministers that serve him. In essence God loves everyone means that man can lead a sinful life, violate the commandments of God daily, not fear Him and still go to heaven. It means that man does not have to be accountable for his her sins and that there is not a Day of Judgment when men receive the things done in the body whether it be good or evil. God loves everyone falsely implies that there is only one attribute of God (love) and that there is no hell and no dichotomy between heaven and hell. Romans 9 18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, whom he will he hardeneth What if God, willing to show his wrath and to make his power known, endured much long suffering the vessels of wrath fitted for destruction. God loves everyone teaches that since God loves everyone that there is no need to fear Him. Ecclesiastes 12 12 And further, by these, my son be admonished of making many books there is no end and much...

The Damnation Of Hell

Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers how can ye escape the damnation of Hell Matt. 23 33. This verse undoubtedly refers to the literal destruction that soon after befell the Jewish nation, when six hundred thousand experienced literally the condemnation of Gehenna, by perishing miserably by fire and sword. The next words explain this damnation Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes and some of them ye shall kill and crucify and some of them ye shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. Verily I say unto you, all these things shall come upon this generation.

Christianity Calls from Hell

Christianity is likened in the Talmud to one of two daughters of a horse-leech calling from hell, Bring, bring One is the government Which constantly imposes fresh taxes and duties and the other Minuth (Christianity) Which continually lures the unwary to its erroneous teaching a Biblical verse is then misused as a curse applied to those converted to idolatry (Christianity). Then another says the voice of hell is calling to bring these two daughters, who cry and call in this world, back to hell. (See Exhibit 179)

Satan Wants You to Miss the Mark

One of the Greek words for sin in the New Testament literally means to miss the mark. So Satan is content to let you believe in God and Christ as long as he can still control you, make you miss the mark. His goal is to keep you out of the coming Kingdom of God, which will replace him and his demons by blinding you to what is really happening God inspired the Apostle James to write You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe and tremble (James 2 19).

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned but cast them down to hell

Who sinned first, angels or man The fact that angels sinned before man cannot be disputed, because Satan was already a sinner and present in the Garden of Eden before Adam and Eve sinned. Young Earth Creationists deny even this obvious and basic truth, that sin first entered the world through angels and not through man. This obvious truth is confirmed by the historical sequence of the three judgements listed above, where the Bible places the sins of angels before the sins of man.

Angels Michael versus Satan

The existence of angels and demons, archangels such as Michael and Satan, the prince of the powers of the air (Eph. 2 2), is affirmed in most Christian traditions. But the meagre biblical statements have been substantially developed in the Coptic tradition. Four archangels (Gabriel, Michael, Raphael and Suriel) are honoured and Michael receives particular attention as the angel who takes over the duties of the fallen Satan. The Book of the Investiture of St Michael survives in several Coptic versions and provides a script for the feast day of his investiture, 21 November. The twelfth of each month is another Feast of Michael. Complementing this, the activity of the demons and Satan (or Sabataniel, Samael, Iblis) is recognized. Works such as the Sayings of the Desert Fathers (see Ward 1975) and the saints' lives of the Synaxarion portray the demons at work in the world to undermine the efforts of Christians. Athanasius' Life of Antony is the prototype and its point of view is still...

Why did Jesus allow the demons to go into the pigs causing them to drown

To better understand why Jesus allowed the demons to go into the pigs, causing them to drown, we need first to study Mark's and Luke's account of this incident. In Matthew's account there are two demoniacs mentioned, whereas both Mark and Luke only mention one. That is not to say that there were not two demoniacs involved, but that only the most prominent one was mentioned (CP Mk 5 1-20 Lu 8 26-39). Jesus' purpose was to save the man. His wellbeing is the issue here, not the pigs. What happened to the pigs was incidental to a human life being saved, which is more precious to God than a whole herd of animals. Jesus simply consented to the demons entering into the pigs because their eternal punishment was not yet due. He did not tell the demons to kill the pigs. They just did to the pigs what they eventually would have done to the man. He was already in the place of the dead - the tombs - and would have surely died but for Jesus delivering him from death and enabling him to re-enter...

Role Of Demons In Starting Religions

Hinduism is replete with many gods and many superstitions. It has a deep-rooted tendency toward mysticism, and derives much of its power from demonic activity. Some of the Holiest men of Hinduism are deranged men who run around on all fours like animals. This Author has personally seen the total demonic degradation of the human by Hinduism all in the disguise of making the person spiritual. The polytheism of the Mesopotameans, the Sumerians, Assyrians, the Persians, the Babylonians are full of demons from the earliest of historical records. Demonism is the dynamic behind the magic and spiritual powers of these groups' religion.8 The Caananite, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman gods relate to the Babylonian gods in character and nature, and are also demonic. All kinds of magic, immorality, human sacrifice, astrology, etc. came to be practiced the SATANIC HIERARCHY BASIS FOR CHART This chart has been developed from charts by Ex-Satanists, it also is colloborated by information received from...

Why did Jesus refer to Peter as Satan here

Here Jesus had just begun to tell the disciples how He must shortly suffer and die. Peter could not understand how Jesus could be Messiah and yet have to suffer at the hands of the religious leaders and then be put to death. Peter did not comprehend God's redemptive plan in Christ's death, burial and resurrection, and he tried to talk Jesus out of allowing it to happen. In so doing Peter unwittingly allowed himself to become a tool of Satan by trying to thwart Christ's mission on earth and interfere with God's redemptive plan for all mankind. Jesus' whole purpose in living was to die (CP Isa 53 10 Jn 3 16 10 17-18 12 27 Ac 2 22-23 4 26-28). Peter was not thinking from God's viewpoint but Satan's, and Jesus rebuked him as Satan for yielding to Satan's influence.

Is Jesus teaching here that before some demons can be cast out Christians must first pray and fast

This scripture has been used many times to teach that believers must first pray and fast before attempting to cast out demons like Jesus did in V18, but that is not correct. To properly understand Jesus' saying here we need to study the context in which He said it. It was the disciples' lack of faith, as V20 clearly teaches, that enabled the demon to resist them, and Jesus was pointing here to the future ministry of the disciples and their need for faith to perform His work. Such faith only comes by constant contact with the Lord through prayer and fasting, and abiding in His word, but it does not have to be any greater, metaphorically speaking, than a tiny mustard seed for it to work. This is for our admonition too. It stresses the importance of our own Christian walk being one of prayer and fasting and abiding in God's word to do His work. Then it only remains for us to exercise our faith by acting upon His word. We do not have to specifically fast and pray in order to be able to...

Sheol Hadees Rendered Hell

The first time the word is found translated Hell in the Bible is in Deut. 32 22-26 For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest Hell (Sheol-Hadees) and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. I will heap mischiefs upon them I will spend mine arrows upon them. They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust. The sword without and terror within shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs. I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men. Thus,

The Lowest Hell Is On Earth

And its torments consist in such pains as are only possible in this life hunger, the teeth of beasts, the poison of serpents, the sword, etc. and not only are real offenders to suffer them, but even sucklings are to be involved in the calamity. If endless torment is denoted by the word, infant damnation follows, for into this hell the suckling and the man of gray hairs go, side by side. The scattering and destruction of the Israelites, in this world, is the meaning of fire in the lowest hell, in this text, as any reader can see by carefully consulting the chapter containing this first instance of the use of the word. Similar to this are the teachings wherever the word occurs in the Old Testament For thou wilt not leave my soul in Hell nor suffer thine holy one to see corruption. Ps. 16 10. Here corruption is placed parallel with Sheol, or death. Though they dig into Hell, thence shall my hand take them though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down. Amos 9 2. If I...

Sheolhadees Rendered Hell

The first time the word is found translated Hell in the Bible is in Deut. xxxii 22-26 For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest Hell (Sheol-Hadees) and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. Thus, THE LOWEST HELL IS ON EARTH, And its torments consist in such pains as are only possible in this life hunger, the teeth of beasts, the poison of serpents, the sword, etc. and not only are real offenders to suffer them, but even...

Destroy Soul And Body In Hell

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in Hell. Matt. 10 28. But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear Fear him which, after he hath killed, hath power to cast into Hell yea, I say unto you, fear him. Luke 12 5. Dr. W. E. Manley observes that the condition threatened is one wherein the body can be killed. And no one has imagined any such place, outside the present state of being. Nor can there be the least doubt about the nature of this killing of the body for the passage is so constructed as to settle this question beyond all controversy. It is taking away the natural life, as was done by the persecutors of the apostles. The Jews were in a condition of depravity properly represented by Gehenna. the apostles had been in that condition, but had been delivered from it. By supposing the word Hell to denote a condition now and in the present life, there is no abusurdity involved. Sinful...

The Age of Judgement and Reconciliation of Satan and the Fallen Angels and the Creation of the New Heaven and the New

Mistranslation of four important age-related words in the Bible. These are two Greek words aion and aionios, and two Hebrew words owlam and ad. The mistranslation of these four age-related words is an important reason why traditional Christianity has not understood God's Plan of the Ages and why it has ended up with the unbiblical doctrine of eternal torture in hell. The following study of the mistranslation and or misinterpretation of the four age-related Greek and Hebrew words, requires some determination and patience on the part of our readers. We encourage you to persist with this important concise study as we are sure that your efforts will be greatly rewarded in understanding why and how traditional Christianity has erroneously believed the doctrine of hell for many centuries.

What about Peter and Jude do they preach hell

In these verses, as in many other places in the New Testament, the Greek word aion is mistranslated to mean forever by translators of most versions of the Bible. Yes, there is a future age-to-come (aion) judgement for all ungodly men but not an eternal judgement in 'hell'. Once we understand that the two Greek words aion and aionios have been misinterpreted or mistranslated as explained in Chapter 5, there is absolutely nothing in the New Testament that supports the false doctrine of Eternal Torture in Hell.

Hell In The New Testamenthadees

The word Hades occurs but eleven times in the New Testament, and is translated Hell ten times, and grave once. The word is from a not, and eido, to see, and means concealed, invisible. It has exactly the same meaning as Sheol, literally the grave, or death, and figuratively destruction, downfall, calamity, or punishment in this world, with no intimation whatever of torment or punishment beyond the grave. Such is the meaning in every passage of the Old Testament containing the word Sheol or Hades, whether translated Hell, grave or pit. Such is the invariable meaning of Hadees in the New Testament. Says the Emphatic Diaglot To translate Hades by the word Hell as it is done ten times out of eleven in the New Testament, is very improper, unless it has the Saxon meaning of helan, to cover, attached to it. The primitive signification of Hell, only denoting what was secret or concealed, perfectly corresponds with the Greek term Hades and its equivalent Sheol, but the theological definition...

The First Lie Of Satan You Will Mot Surely Die1

All the main religions of this world, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and traditional Christianity, believe in the survival of a conscious spirit or soul immediately after death. They say that the soul is the real person dwelling in a person's temporary physical body in this life. The main religions including traditional Christianity believe that when the body dies, the soul of the person continues to live consciously with the person's identity intact. Traditional Christianity believes that when a person dies, his conscious soul or spirit is judged immediately to go to either heaven or hell. The Bible says that Satan deceives the whole world. (Revelation 12 9) In the Garden of Eden, our first parents, Adam and Eve, were deceived and believed the first lie of Satan, which was You will not surely die , before they ate the forbidden fruit.

Sin Satan Death And Hell Destroyed

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil, and deliver them who through fear of death, were all their lifetime subject to bondage. Heb. 2 14, 15. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3 8. Death and Hell were cast into the lake of fire. Rev. 20 14. There is no sting, no victory. Then there is no sin. The sting of death is sin, and Christ is victorious over sin and death, by accomplishing their destruction. These passages teach that Jesus became mortal to destroy man's enemies, the devil, sin, and death, and that he succeeded in his great mission, leaving not an enemy of man in existence, when he had finished his work.

What circumstance shows that the earth came into Satans possession

And the Devil, taking Him up into a high mountain, showed unto Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the Devil said unto Him, All this power will I give Thee, and the glory of them for that is delivered unto Me and to whomsoever I will, I give it. Luke 4 5, 6. NOTE. - This was the occasion of Christ's temptation in the wilderness. It cannot be truthfully said that Satan lied, when he told Christ that all the kingdoms of the world had been delivered into his (Satan's) hand. There was a sense in which his pretensions with regard to the kingdoms of the world, their power and their glory, were truthful, otherwise how could his words have been a temptation to Christ

Angelic Descent and Apocalyptic Epistemology The Teachings of Enoch and the Fallen Angels in the Book of the Watchers

Clj efore exploring the jewish and christian transformations of the Enochic myth of angelic descent, we must first ask how the fallen angels and their teachings function within the Book of the Watchers itself. Our inquiry into the reception-history of this apocalypse necessitates a focus on the redacted form of the text, the form in which (most) Jews and Christians would encounter it. In light of its complex literary history, however, the contents of the apocalypse cannot be addressed apart from some discussion of the strands from which it has been woven. The first unit, 1 En. 1 -5, establishes Enoch's status as a visionary with unique access to heavenly knowledge and records his exhortations about the value ofcosmological phenomena as models for ethical behavior. The second, 1 En. 6-11, wholly concerns the fallen angels. Beginning with a paraphrase of Gen 6 1 -4, this unit recounts the Watchers' descent from heaven, the tragic results for humankind, and the divine response to the...

Identity of Satan with the Egyptian Typhon

Samael is Satan but Bryan and a good many other authorities show it to be the name of the Simoun the wind of the desert,+ and the Simoun is called Atabul-os or Diabolos. frequent inundations, were called Typhonian or Taphos hence, the origin of Typhon. Plutarch, who was a rigid, orthodox Greek, and never known to much compliment the Egyptians, testifies in his Isis and Osiris, to the fact that, far from worshipping the Devil (of which Christians accused them), they despised more than they dreaded Typhon. In his symbol of the opposing, obstinate power of nature, they believed him to be a poor, struggling, half-dead divinity. Thus, even at that remote age, we see the ancients already too enlightened to believe in a personal devil. As Typhon was represented in one of his symbols under the figure of an ass at the festival of the sun's sacrifices, the Egyptian priests exhorted the faithful worshippers not to carry gold ornaments upon their bodies for fear of giving food to the ass Three...

Lilith Favorite Demoness

Of the hordes of demons the Jew who would win out must use and dismiss, none is more prominent than Lilith. Some of the amulets meant to keep her in check, as reproduced from the Jewish Encyclopedia, appear in Exhibits 286 and 287. Lilith is supposedly jealous of lying-in mothers and their new-born babies. Her main job is apparently spawning demons. In his above noted publication, Rabbi Trachtenberg repeats the Talmudic tale that when Adam was parted from Eve, he had relations with female demons who bore him demonic offspring. He was at this for 130 years, we are told. demons who embrace sleeping men and cause them to have nocturnal emissions which are the seed of a hybrid progeny . As the demons whose special prey is lying-in women, it was found necessary to adopt an extensive series of protective measures against her . We seem to have here a union of the night demon with the spirit that presides over pregnancy, influenced no doubt by the character of the Babylonian Lamassu, and the...

The Judgement and Reconciliation of Satan and the Fallen Angels

God's Lake of Fire will not only refine and cleanse unbelievers for an Age during the Great White Throne Judgement, but it will also refine and cleanse Satan and the fallen angels extending to an additional Age. The Bible says that the judgement of Satan will last for two Ages. (Revelation 20 10) The scripture clearly says that all fallen angels will also be reconciled through Jesus Christ. (Colossians 1 15-20) A full explanation of this subject is given in Chapter 13 'The Judgement and Reconciliation of Satan'. 11, The Judgement Reconciliation of Satan IS, 'Hell' in the Bible

The Judgement And Reconciliation Of Satan

God's Plan For All is to universally reconcile all things to Himself through Jesus Christ. The whole purpose of Jesus Christ's death on the cross is for God to reconcile without exception, all things in heaven and all things on earth to Himself. God's plan is clearly, wonderfully and powerfully given in Colossians 1 15-20. This scripture definitely and unambiguously includes the reconciliation of ALL fallen angels through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. This is the key scripture of God's Plan for All. It is essential to repeat our comments on it given in Chapter 4 'Universal Reconciliation Scriptures', as this scripture confirms that all fallen angels are included in God's Plan of Universal Reconciliation. 'Thrones or dominions or principalities or powers' as given in verse 16, definitely include Satan and the fallen angels. The truth that God will even reconcile Satan and the fallen angels exalts God's power, wisdom, love, mercy, forgiveness and His justice to the full....

For if God did not spare the angels who sinned but cast them down to hell tartaroo and delivered them into chains of

In this verse, the Greek word tartaroo is mistranslated as hell. Tartaroo is used only once in the Bible and the context, in which it appears, reveals the meaning of the word as a prison of spiritual darkness. Satan and the fallen angels were cast back down to earth when they first sinned during the Pre-Adamic Age and they remain confined to this earth in spiritual darkness, reserved for their final judgement in the Lake of Fire. The Bible says that true believers, God's Elect who are the Bride of Christ, will rule and reign with Jesus Christ and they will have the privilege of judging fallen angels.

Illicit Sex Wicked Desire and the Demonized Heretic

Charges of demonic influence and slavery to desire, found throughout late-first- and early-second-century Christian literature, built upon the traditional association of illicit sex, idolatry, and apostasy upon well-known categories of Greek invective and upon moralistic writings that made sophrosyne and its opposites (akolastos, aselgeia, tryphe) the distinguishing characteristics of a good (agathos) or bad (kakia) person. These charges, directed at real or imagined opponents, could serve at least three functions simultaneously to eliminate rivals who, if the charge stuck, would be viewed as anything but Christian to persuade insiders to adopt and display a strict sexual virtue or face demonization and labeling as an idolater, gentile, or worse and to suggest to an audience that the author embodies the in-Christ-ness that he has been promoting, lending legitimacy to his argument and granting him the authority to make it. Sexualized vituperation, therefore, can be read as a rhetorical...

The Devil Officially Recognized by the Church

For our part, we would rather remember the wise words of J. C. Colquhoun,** who says that those persons who, in modern times, adopt the doctrine of the Devil in its strictly literal and personal application, do not appear to be aware that they are in reality polytheists, heathens, idolaters. Seeking supremacy in everything over the ancient creeds, the Christians claim the discovery of the Devil officially recognized by the Church. Jesus was the first to use the word legion when speaking of them and it is on this ground that M. des Mousseaux thus defends his position in one of his demonological works. Later, he says, when the synagogue expired, depositing its inheritance in the hands of Christ, were born into the world and shone, the Fathers of the Church, who have been accused by certain persons of a rare and precious ignorance, of having borrowed their ideas as to the spirits of darkness from the theurgists. Three deliberate, palpable, and easily-refuted errors not to use a harsher...

Demonology Of The Pharisees

So-called Judaism is nothing but Babylonian Talmudic Pharisaism, which at base is crass paganism concocted through the centuries. Descriptions concocted for this very old satanism, such as immanence (Spinoza) emanation (Talmudic Cabala), dialectical materialism (Marx) merely dress up old pagan concepts All forms of demonology were adopted by the Pharisees and incorporated into so-called Judaism. Demons of the privy, of the night, of every phase of nature, were and are catered to by the tenets and customs of this sect. The Talmud book of Yadayim (hands) is, for example, on ritual hand-washing in connection with Pharisee demonology. The Talmud is larded with occult works and practices. The Pharisee custom in Christ's time of drizzling water alternately on the hands, to carry off demons (who presumably live in water) is still in force. The Code of Jewish Law (Schulchan Aruch), which is a digested Mishna of the Talmud, holds that an evil spirit takes over a sleeping person Citing this...

Called the Devil and Satan who deceives the whole world he was cast to the earth and his angels were cast out with him

The verses above are speaking about a war between armies of millions of angels. We are speaking about an angelic war with massive destructive power at the angels' command. This angelic war was started in heaven but finished on earth. It is clear that the earth suffered cataclysmic violence of unimaginable proportion because of this war, which resulted in Satan and his fallen angels being cast back down to earth by God. We can now confidently conclude that when the Bible says in Genesis 1 2 'The earth became chaotic and wasted and darkness was on the face of the deep ', that the Bible is speaking about God's cataclysmic tohuw and bohuw global judgement because of the sins and rebellion of Satan and the fallen angels. This all happened in the Pre-Adamic Age.

Objection 9 Isnt Reincarnation More Rational Than Hell

Instead, they believe in reincarnation, where people return to this world in another form after their death and are given another opportunity to work off the bad karma they generated in their past life and move toward enlightenment. Wouldn't reincarnation be a rational way for a loving God to give people a fresh start so that they might repent the next time around and he wouldn't have to send them to hell I asked. Wouldn't this be preferable to hell There can be psychological explanations-people seem to remember certain details, but they're vague or lucky guesses, or there could be demonic explanations for some of this activity. Actually, when you carefully examine the research, you find it fails to support reincarnation.15 Instead, Jesus taught about the reality of hell. In fact, he discussed the subject more than anyone else in the Bible. It's ironic, I pointed out, that many atheists embrace Jesus as having been a great teacher, and yet he's the one...

Purgatory Heaven and Hell

The one exception referred to above, that is to say, the one aspect of specifically Christian eschatology to have attracted a great deal of attention from philosophers of religion in recent years, is the question of hell. Hell does not feature in the Christian creeds but it has been the dominant view in Christian doctrine down the ages that salvation in and through Christ is effective only for those who, explicitly or implicitly, accept God's forgiveness and open themselves up, in faith, to the Spirit's work of sanctification. Human God-given freedom, it is held, always leaves open the possibility of rejection of the divine love, and consequent alienation from the springs of eternal life. The possibility, in this sense, of everlasting damnation cannot be denied. And, to judge simply by the empirical evidence of peoples' lives and deeds in this life, much of the world remains unredeemed, and many souls do repudiate the love of God and find themselves in hell. The tradition suggests...

Loving God Would Never Torture People In Hell

There is one very serious defect to my mind in Christ's moral character, and that is that he believed in hell. I do not myself feel that any person who is really profoundly humane can believe in everlasting punishment. Hell is God's great compliment to the reality of human freedom and the dignity of human choice. For a long time as a spiritual seeker, I found my sense of justice outraged by the Christian teaching about hell, which I considered far more unjust than a mandatory prison term would have been in the case before Mathers. The doctrine seemed like cosmic overkill to me, an automatic and unappealable sentence to an eternity of torture and torment. It's mandatory sentencing taken to the extreme everyone gets the same consequences, regardless of their circumstances. Step out of line with God-even a little bit, even inadvertently-and you're slapped with an endless prison sentence in a place that makes Leavenworth look like Disneyland. Where's the justice in that Where's the...

King James Version KJV hell occurs 54 times

New King James Version (NKJV) hell occurs 32 times Revised Standard Version (RSV) hell occurs 17 times New International Version (NIV) hell occurs 14 times Darby Translation Version (DT) hell occurs 12 times Young Literal Version (YLT) hell occurs 0 times In some Bible Versions, sheol and hades are translated to mean the underworld in a couple of places. This meaning is a mistranslation. It is clear that the translation of sheol and hades to mean the underworld has been influenced by pagan Greek mythology and it is not supported anywhere in Scripture. The Greek word tartarus, which is also incorrectly translated as hell in the KJV and some other Bible versions, occurs only once in the Bible in 2 Peter 2 4, in connection with the judgement of fallen angels. Tartarus does not mean hell but it means a prison of spiritual darkness, which all fallen angels are confined to until their final judgement as explained in Chapter 13. Let us now consider the meaning of the Greek word gehenna,...

Beware The Doctrines Of Demons

Following the Pagan calendar's prescribed events, people are unknowingly worshipping demons. Read all of 1 Timothy the first chance you get The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 4 1.

Hell In The Old And New Testament

Hell in The Old Testament The word Hell appears in the Old Testament approximately 31 times and, without exception, is translated from the Hebrew word Sheol. This same Hebrew word is also translated pit three different times. Pit, translated from Sheol, is found in Numbers 16 30,33 and Job 17 16. Hell is referred to as a pit three times, both being the same place. Sheol is not the grave. A mistranslation-- Sheol is also translated as grave approximately 25 times in the Old Testament, which has caused much confusion concerning the Doctrine of Hell. Jehovah's Witnesses utilize this translational error to the fullest, claiming Hell is the grave and nothing more. When we look at the Hebrew we find that the word gibrah is properly used for grave. Gibrah is translated throughout the Old testament as grave, burying place, and sepulchre, and properly so. Sheol is never in any case in the Old testament ever referring to grave, burying place or sepulchre but, rather a place located in the...

Objection 6 How Can Hell Exist Alongside of Heaven

If heaven is supposed to be a place without tears, then how can there be an eternal hell existing at the same time I asked. Wouldn't those in heaven mourn for those who are suffering forever in hell First of all, I think people in heaven will realize that hell is a way of honoring people as being intrinsically valuable creatures made in God's image, Moreland said. C. S. Lewis said hell doesn't have veto power over heaven. He meant that people in heaven will not be denied the privilege of enjoying their life just because they're consciously aware of hell. If they couldn't, then hell would have veto power over heaven.

The Hindu Devil a Metaphysical Abstraction

The modern Devil is their principal heritage from the Roman Cybele, Babylon, the Great Mother of the idolatrous and abominable religions of the earth. But it may be argued, perhaps, that Hindu theology, both Brahmanical and Buddhistic, is as strongly impregnated with belief in objective devils as Christianity itself. There is a slight difference. This very subtlety of the Hindu mind is a sufficient warrant that the well-educated people, the learned portion, at least, of the Brahman and Buddhist divines, consider the Devil in another light. With them the Devil is a metaphysical abstraction, an allegory of necessary evil while with Christians the myth has become a historical entity, the fundamental stone on which Christianity, with its dogma of redemption, is built. He is as necessary as Des Mousseaux has shown to the Church as the beast of the seventeenth chapter of the Apocalypse was to his rider. The English-speaking Protestants, not finding the Bible explicit enough, have adopted...

Digression 19 Lucifer

Isaiah 14 vs. 12-14 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning how It is assumed that Lucifer was once a powerful angel who sinned at the time of Adam and was 1. The words devil , satan and angel never occur in this chapter. This is the only place in Scripture where the word Lucifer occurs. 3. Lucifer is described as being covered in worms (v. 11) and mocked by men (v. 16) because he no longer has any power after his casting out of heaven (vs. 5-8) so there is no justification for thinking that Lucifer is now on earth leading believers astray. 4. Why is Lucifer punished for saying, I will ascend into heaven (v. 13), if he was already there 5. Lucifer is to rot in the grave Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the worms cover thee (v. 11). Seeing angels cannot die (Luke 20 35-36), Lucifer therefore cannot be an angel the language is more suited to a man. 6. Verses 13 and 14 have connections with 2 Thess. 2 3-4, which is about the man of sin -thus Lucifer points...

The English Word Hell

The English word Hell grew into its present meaning. Horne Tooke says that hell, heel, hill, hole, whole, hall, hull, halt and hold are all from the same root. Hell, any place, or some place covered over. Heel, that part of the foot which is covered by the leg. Hill, any heap of earth, or stone, etc., by which the plain or level surface of the earth is covered. Hale, i.e., healed or whole. Whole, the same as hale, i.e., covered. It was formerly written whole, without the w, as a wound or sore is healed, or whole, that is, covered over by the skin, which manner of expression will not seem extraordinary if we consider our use of the word recover. Hall, a covered building, where persons assemble, or where goods are protected from the weather. Hull, of a nut, etc. That by which a nut is covered. Hole, some place covered over. 'You shall seek for holes to hide your heads in.' Holt, holed, hol'd holt. A rising ground or knoll covered with trees. Hold, as the hold of a ship, in which things...

Was Judas Iscariot ever saved or was he always of the devil as some teach

To say that Judas was never saved, always of the devil, and never in grace as some teach, is to ignore the plain facts of scripture. Judas was given by God to Jesus and Jesus had once given him eternal life (CP Jn 17 1-12). Jesus trusted Judas - He called him mine own familiar friend , which means that Judas was a confidant of Jesus, a trusted friend (CP Psa 41 9 55 12-14 Jn 13 18). Would Jesus have referred to Judas like He did in Psa 41 and 55 if he was always of the devil (While Psa 55 12-14 also applies to the betrayal of King David, it is a messianic prophecy and applies to the betrayal of Jesus too). The Holy Spirit indwelt him and Judas had all the power the other disciples had to heal the sick, cleanse lepers, raise the dead and cast out demons, etc. (CP Mt 10 1-8, 16-20 Mk 3 14-19 6 7-13 Lu 6 13-16 9 1-6). Along with Jesus' other disciples Judas' name was written in God's Book of Life (CP Lu 10 1-9, 17-20). Judas was a bishop in the church Jesus is building (CP Ac 1 15-25)....

The Binding of Satan

And I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key of the abyss and a great chain in His hand. And He laid hold of the Dragon, the Serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he should not deceive The binding of the Dragon ex ses in symbolic, prophetic language much of what we ha en in previous chapters Christ's defeat of Satan. The an 'messenger) with the controlling authority over the abyss i Son of God (cf. Rev. 1 18 10 1 18 1), who appeared for purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil (1 n 3 8). As we have already noted, our Lord began binding e strong man during His earthly ministry (Matt. 12 28-29). Tiie New Testament (cf. Luke 10 17-20 John 12 31-32 Eph. 4 8 Col. 2 15 Heb. 2 14) stresses that Satan was definitively defeated in the life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. And he is overcome daily in the experience of Christians as we...

Origin History and Destiny of Satan

Have any others than the human family sinned God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment. 2 Peter 2 4. What is the name of him who led them to sin Depart from Me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the Devil and his angels. Matt. 25 41. Is he known by any other name And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world. Rev. 12 9. Where was his abode before he fell And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as

Objection 1 How Can God Send Children to Hell

People recoil at the thought of children languishing in hell. In fact, some atheists like to taunt Christians by dredging up writings by nineteenth-century evangelists who used horrific language to describe the ghastly experiences of children in hell. For example, a British priest nicknamed the children's apostle wrote these gruesome words A little child is in this red-hot oven. Hear how it screams to come out See how it turns and twists itself about in the fire It beats its head against the roof of the oven. It stamps its little feet on the floor. You can see on the face of this little child what you see on the faces of all in hell-despair, desperate and horrible.6 The idea of children in hell-well, it's too much, I said to Moreland. How can there be a loving God if children are subjected to hell I was interested in seeing whether Moreland's response would be consistent with scholar Norman Geisler's earlier assessment of this issue. Yes, okay, but still-will there be children in hell...

Objection 2 Why Does Everyone Suffer the Same in Hell

Our sense of justice demands that evil people be held accountable for the way they've harmed others, I said. And in that sense, hell might be an appropriate sanction for some. However, it violates our sense of fairness that Adolf Hitler would bear the same eternal punishment as someone who lived a pretty good life by our standards, but who made the decision not to follow God. Moreland turned in his Bible to the New Testament. Actually, he said, everyone doesn't experience hell in the same way. The Bible teaches that there are different degrees of suffering and punishment. Exactly. There will be degrees of separation, isolation, and emptiness in hell. I think this is significant because it emphasizes that God's justice is proportional. There is not exactly the same justice for everyone who refuses the mercy of God.

The Bible Hell

Does the Bible teach the idea commonly held among Christians concern penetrable pall of darkness, by revealing a state or place of endless torment Or do they explain its existence, and relieve God's character, and dispel all the darkness of misbelief, by teaching that it exists as a means to a good end It is our belief that the Bible Hell is not the heathen, nor the orthodox hell, but is one that is doomed to pass away when its purpose shall have been accomplished, in the reformation of those for whose welfare a good God ordained it.

Sheol Rendered Hell

The first time the word is found translated Hell in the Bible is in Deut. 32 22-26 For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest Hell, Sheol-Hadees, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. I will heap mishiefs upon them I will spend mine arrows upon them. They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust. The sword without and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs. I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men. Thus the lowest Hell is on earth, and its torments consist in such pains as are only possible in this life hunger, the teeth of beasts, the poison of serpents, the sword, etc. and not only are real offenders to suffer them, but even sucklings...

Cast Into Hellfire

And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into Hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into Hell. Matt. 5 28, 29. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into Hell-fire. Matt 18 9 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into Hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into Hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out it is better for thee...

Set On Fire Of Hell

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature and it is set on fire of Hell. James 3 6. A tongue set on fire of Gehenna when James wrote was understood just as in London a tongue inspired by Billingsgate, or in New York by Five Points, or in Boston by Ann street, or in Chicago by Fifth Avenue would be understood, namely, a profane and vulgar tongue. No reference whatever was had to any after-death place of torment but the allusion was solely to a locality well-known to all Jews, as a place of corruption and it was figuratively and properly applied to a vile tongue.

Danger Of Hellfire

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of Hell fire. Matt. 5 22.

Demonology

In considering demons and the service which they render Satan, it is important to distinguish between demon possession or control and demon influence. In the one case the body is entered and a dominating control gained, while in the other case a warfare from without is carried on by suggestion, temptation, and influence. Investigation of the Scriptures in regard to demon possession reveals First, that this host is made up of bodiless spirits only. The following Scriptures verify such a statement When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there and the last state of that man is worse than the first (Matt. 12 43-45) And all the devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine,...

Demonic Depravity

The Satanic Skull and Bones Order has initiation rites which include the candidate lying in a coffin and relating their sexual exploits. Another part of the ceremony involves wrestling in a manure pile.5 This is the type of degenerate activity Satanism is well known to draw people into. One of the top Christian researchers in demons, and author of two excellent books on Satanism and demons Merrill F. Unger writes, People who deal in the occult are often found to be immoral. Men and women who abandon themselves to immorality reach a point where God gives them up, in the sense of restraining Satan and demonic power from them, so that they are abandoned to the degrading depths of immorality and are shamelessly reduced to actions that even animals avoid (Romans 1 26-32 cf. Revelation 9 20, 21). 6

The Devil And Satan

Sometimes the original words of the Bible text are left untranslated ( Mammon , in Mt. 6 24, is an Aramaic example of this). As a word, 'satan' is an untranslated Hebrew word which means 'adversary', while 'devil' is a translation of the Greek word 'diabolos', meaning a liar, an enemy or false accuser. If we are to believe that Satan and the Devil are some being outside of us which is responsible for sin, then whenever we come across these words in the Bible, we have to make them refer to this evil person. The Biblical usage of these words shows that they can be used as ordinary adjectives, describing ordinary people. This fact makes it impossible to reason that the words devil and satan as used in the Bible do in themselves refer to a great wicked person or being outside of us. The Word 'Satan' In The Bible 1 Kings 11 14 records that The Lord stirred up an adversary (same Hebrew word elsewhere translated satan ) unto Solomon, Hadad the Edomite . And God stirred up another adversary...

Marks Of Lucifer

Witches receive a small mark called the Devil's Mark. New Agers are receiving stars on theirs during a Luciferian initiation. This initiation also gives them a Kundalini (aka Skaktipat) experience. Their minds are altered by the initiation and their new personality is now Satan-possessed. Alice Bailey indicates that the Luciferian initiation will be done in the churches and Masonic Lodges. (Externalisation of the Hierarchy, p. 514) and that what she calls externalized Ashrams will be active along the major line of The public inauguration of the system of initiation. (p. 700) Marrs found stories of marks that are being given even today. Witches receive a small mark called the Devil's Mark. The New Agers are receiving stars on theirs in a Luciferic Initiation. This Initiation gives the New Agers a Kundalini or Skaktipat experience where their minds are altered from these initiations, the have a new personality by being possessed by Satan.

Demons

The previous two sections have explained why we do not believe the devil or satan to be a personal being or a monster. If we accept that there is no such being, then it surely follows that demons, who are held to be the servants of the devil, also do not exist. Many people seem to think that God gives us all the good things of life, and the devil and his demons give us the bad things, and take away the good things which God gives us. Therefore when we get trials, we should accept that they come from God, not blame them on a devil or demons. Job was a man who lost many of the good things which God blessed him with, but he did not say, These demons have taken away all God gave me . No listen to what he said - My Son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him for whom the Lord loveth He (not demons ) chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons for what son is he whom the Father...

Devilish Depictions

Since medieval times, artists have portrayed Satan and his demons as grotesque creatures, human in form but with horns, tails, and cloven hoofs. Most Christians today are less concerned with the appearance of Satan and Hell, and are more likely to think of the torture of Hell as the agony of an existence without the love of God. Satans Rise to Power

The star in Revelation 9 1 refers to Satan. John's vision represents Satan's fall from God's presence to his banishment here on earth. Satan, and those angels who rebelled with him against God, have been limited in the power they once were given. They have been restrained by God. This restraint from power is symbolically pictured by chains and a place of restraint, like a prison. The key is symbolic of being released from these restraints. Satan has been allowed to exercise powers of influence over mankind, primarily in the form of feeding man's own greed for wealth, power, illegal self-gratification, etc. Now, at this very point of end-time tribulation, at the sounding of the Fifth Trumpet, Satan and the demons (angels that rebelled with Satan) will be released from their restraints and will be able to exercise far greater power and influence over mankind than before. Nations and religions already desire to exert power and evil on earth, but Satan will move them to follow their evil...

The Truth About Hell

I leaned back on the couch and thought for a moment. Moreland had adroitly responded to the toughest objections to the issue of hell. I had to admit that when I took all of his answers together, they did seem to provide a reasonable rationale for the doctrine. Yet that didn't remove my discomfort. And I was in good company. C. S. Lewis once said the doctrine of hell is one of the chief grounds on which Christianity is attacked as barbarous and the goodness of God impugned. i6 As for Moreland, he had spoken as a philosopher and theologian, but I was curious about his personal reaction to this issue. What about you, J.P I asked. You've woven some convincing arguments in favor of the doctrine, but be honest-don't you have times when you feel terribly uncomfortable about the existence of hell No question. But, again, feeling uncomfortable about something is not the same thing as having a rational, considered judgment that it's wrong. I believe that hell is morally justifiable, but I don't...

The Child Of Hell

Woe unto you, Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of Hell than yourselves. Matt. 23 15. Looking upon the smoking valley and thinking of its corruptions and abominations to call a man a child of Gehenna was to say that his heart was corrupt and his character vile, but it no more indicated a place of woe after death than a resident of New York would imply such a place by calling a bad man a child of Five Points.

Hartley Ok Oti Vers Alism

There remains one argument more, and of great weight in my opinion, against interpreting any passages of scripture so as to denounce absolutely eternal misery. This is, the declaration of the scriptures concerning the smallness of the number of the elect, and the great difficulty of entering in at the strait gate, already taken notice of. To suppose future punishments to be absolutely eternal, is to suppose, that the christian dispensation condemns far the greater part of mankind to infinite misery upon the balance, whilst yet it is every where declared to be a dispensation of mercy, to be glory to God, and good will to men . which is a great apparent inconsistency. And indeed, unlesB the doctrine of absolutely eternal punishment be taken away, it seems impracticable to convince the world of the great purity and perfection required by the gospel in order to our entrance into the kingdom of heaven. If there be no punishment in another state, besides what is absolutely eternal, men of...

The Descent of the Watchers and the Elevation of Enoch

The productive combination of conflicting traditions is achieved through the juxtaposition of Enoch and the Watchers. Above, we noted that 1 En. 12-16 provides a transition between the angel story in 1 En. 6-11 and Enoch's otherworldly journeys in 1 En. 17-36, by interweaving traditions about the fallen angels (cf. Gen 6 1 -4) with traditions about Enoch (cf. Gen 5 18-24). More specifically, this unit is structured around a two-part contrast between the former, who descend to earth to corrupt humankind with their teachings, and the latter, who ascends to heaven to receive salvific knowledge. These themes are developed further in the following passage (13 3-14 25), which explores Enoch's role within the arithmetic of sin and punishment. The heavenly angels had previously requested that Enoch rebuke the fallen angels (12 1 -6), and the fallen Watchers now appeal to him to write a petition on their behalf (13 3 -4). Enoch's special status as the scribe of righteousness who can mediate...

Two Perspectives on Angelic Sin and Secret Knowledge

For the interpretation of 1 En. 6-11 in 1 En. 12-16, this divine denunciation of the Watchers (15 -16) proves most determinative. Not only is this version of events privileged as the direct speech of the all-knowing God, but it represents this unit's last word on the fallen angels. Different approaches to angelic sin are offered in 1 En. 6-16. In the end, however, the exuberant polysemy of 1 En. 6-11 and the modulation of different voices in 1 En. 12-16 are both resolved through the final appeal to an omniscient, divine perspective in 1 En. 15 -16. 1 Enoch 6-11, 325 eadem, Fallen Angels, 43,73 Suter, Fallen Angel, 119. Likewise, the birth of the Giants is explored in terms of the mingling of spirits and flesh (15 8). Angels properly dwell in heaven, and humans properly dwell on earth (15 10), but the nature of the Giants is mixed. This transgression of categories brings terrible results after their physical death, the Giants' demonic spirits come forth from their bodies to plague...

Approaches to Angelic

18 Suter, Fallen Angel, 115-19 Molenberg, Study, 139. The statements about Asael are followed by a condemnation of Semihazah (9 7). There is no Aramaic extant for this verse, and the extant Greek (Gr Syn) and Ge'ez versions stress his leadership of the hosts of fallen angels. Matthew Black suggests that the texts are corrupt and reconstructs an Aramaic Vorlage In the following chapters, we shall see how many Jews and Christians bypassed this difficulty by focusing wholly on the Watchers' sexual misdeeds. Some, however, chose to draw on the traditions about illicit angelic instruction in 1 En. 6-11 and were thus forced to grapple with the question of how the sexual sins of the Watchers relates to their teachings. To this, the polyvalence of 1 En. 6-11 allows two different answers. It is possible to read the narrative order of 1 En. 6-8 as reflecting the chronology of events, assuming that the events described in 1 En. 8 occurred after the Watchers came to earth to take wives. Following...

From Scribalism to Sectarianism The Angelic Descent Myth and the Social Settings of Enochic Pseudepigraphy

We will first consider the social and historical context of its authors redactors on the basis of the text itself and its commonalities with the earlier Enochic apocalypse, the Astronomical Book. We will then turn to our oldest extant evidence for the influence of its version of the angelic descent myth, analyzing references to Enoch and the fallen angels in the Wisdom of ben Sira and the second-century bce Enochic writings preserved in the Book of Dreams (1 En. 83-90) and the Epistle of Enoch (1 En. 92-105).4 Most scholars reconstruct the social setting of the Book of the Watchers with primary reference to the latter two. By contrast, I will stress the differences between the Enochic writings from the third century bce and those from the second, suggesting that it is problematic to reconstruct the social setting of the Book of the Watchers with primary reference to the Enochic community implied in these later works. Central to my argument is a distinction between the character of...

Topics of Angelic Teaching

31 Molenberg downplays the etiological function of these stories and highlights their typological function ( Study, 145), and Suter sees a tension between the etiological possibilities of the myth and its paradigmatic function ( Fallen Angel, 132-33). In my view, these functions need not be conflicting or mutually exclusive. For exploring how 1 En. 8 1 -2 functions as an etiology of metalworking and cosmetics, the comparison with Rabbinic traditions is perhaps less helpful than the parallels in the Torah and in Hellenistic tradition. When viewed in these contexts, the description of Asael as introducing technological skills to humankind evokes a poignantly ambivalent attitude towards the emergence of human civilization. Nickelsburg, for instance, suggests that 1 En. 8 1 -2 may reflect interpretation of Gen 4 22-24, aimed at explaining exactly how Tubal-Cain learned to forge all instruments of bronze and iron (4 22). Even if such a direct exegetical origin is speculative, it is...

Knowledge sin and secrecy in 1 en 1216

Whatever the precise derivation of 1 En. 6-11, the task of interweaving its potentially antispeculative strands with the descriptions of Enoch's revelations in 1 En. 17-36 is masterfully achieved by the transitional chapters of 1 En. 12-16. The sins of the Watchers are here described in the context of Enoch's commission to rebuke them. This framework enables the integration of traditions about the fallen angels with traditions about the elevation of Enoch, thereby facilitating the combination of 1 En. 6-11 with the material about Enoch in the rest of the Book of the Watchers. In this, the motif of illicit angelic instruction plays a pivotal role, serving as a nexus for the exploration of the epistemological issues raised both by the Watchers' illicit pedagogy and by Enoch's own access to heavenly secrets.63

Is not this a full testimony against their opinion of the torments of hell For if it be not to be read in the word of God, what have we to do with it We are not to believe anything in religion, unless it be written. Tobmbnts Of Hull

Experience teaches, that although the fear of hell at first startles and frights men, yet it is soon over, and is no preserver against sin. I knew one set before him the torments of hell, to keep him from sin and finding that would not do, he added vows and curses to keep him from sin. I knew another, who wished the d vil to take him, soul and body, if he did not do the thing he spake of and yet I knew he did it not. Another wished he might sink into hell immediately, if he did the thing he spake of yet he did do it before he went from the place. Preface To The Prepublication Edition

For instance, an ex-member of the Satanic Illuminati hierarchy revealed that the Russell family is one of the top 13 Satanic families that have generation after generation passed down their Satanic power. It would be nice to have the time to finish the genealogy work I began on Charles T. Russell's family to see how they fit in with the other Russells. So why publish an unfinished book This information is very timely. 1992 is a major year for the Satanists to kick off a series of crises to bring the world under the Satan's rule. I can not presume upon the future that there will be an opportunity to put out books like this. Marshall law under an emergency decree could come any time during the next few years.

Testimony Of Scholars

So that while the Old Testament talks of ten thousand things of small importance, it has not a syllable nor a whisper of what ought to have been told first of all and most of all and continually. No one is said to have gone to such a place as is now denoted by the word Hell, or to be going to it, or saved from it, or exposed to it. To say that the Hell taught by partialist Christians existed before Christ, is to accuse God of having permitted his children for four thousand years to tumble into it by millions, without a word of warning from him. Earth was a flowery path, concealing pitfalls into infinite burnings, and God never told one of his children a word about it. For four thousand years then the race got on with no knowledge of a place of torment after death. When was the fact first made known And if it was not necessary to the wickedest people the world ever knew, when did it become necessary

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth for the first heaven and the first earth

Yes, the time will come, at the creation of the New Heaven and the New Earth, when Jesus Christ will bring to completion God's Plan of Universal Salvation, which He is working out in biblical Ages. This will be when there will be no more pain, no more crying, no more sorrow and no more death. This will be when God the Father Himself will come down to earth to dwell with ALL people and He will be ALL in ALL. If a tormenting hell existed then these verses would be false.

Blaming It All On Them

Another tactic of the conspiracy artist is placing blame on some whipping boy, or large organization, or secret society. The oil companies are to blame for high energy costs for example. Frequently these boogie men are also accused of attempted secrecy. The conspiracy artist will make himself look and his readers are assured that he is presenting facts that 'they don't want you to know.' Or they will tell you that the government or news media is lying about something. But the last person they will blame is the devil.

False Manifestations or Abused

If people have problems with the prophetic movement or various manifestations, does it mean that we are plagued with false Prophets and demonic signs I don't think so. Am I saying these are True Prophets Not exactly. We have people with genuine gifts, but perhaps the true Prophets and Apostles are yet to be revealed.

Does Not Teach Endless Torment

For are we not assured that the time is coming when every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hiss shall be made low Isa. 30 4. When every valley is exalted what becomes of the great gulf And then there is exalted, what said of the duration of the sufferings of the rich man. If the account be a history it must not militate against the promise of The restitution of all things spoken by the mouth of all God's holy prophets since the world began. There is not a word intimating that the rich man's torment was never to cease. So the doctrine of endless misery is after all, not in the least taught here. The most that can be claimed is that the consequences of sin extend into the future life, and that is a doctrine that we believe just as strongly as can any one, though we do not believe they will be endless, nor do we believe the doctrine taught in this parable, nor in the Bible use of the word Hell.

Various Hadith describing the Origin of Idolatry

Ibn Abbas explained Following upon the death of those righteous men, Satan inspired their people to erect statues in the places where they used to sit. They did this, but these statues were not worshiped until the coming generations deviated from the right way of life. Then they worshipped them as their idols.

Noahs Reasoning with his People

Allah in His Mercy sent His messenger Noah to guide his people. Noah was an excellent speaker and a very patient man. He pointed out to his people the mysteries of life and the wonders of the universe. He pointed out how the night is regularly followed by the day and that the balance between these opposites were designed by Allah the Almighty for our good. The night gives coolness and rest while the day gives warmth and awakens activity. The sun encourages growth, keeping all plants and animals alive, while the moon and stars assist in the reckoning of time, direction and seasons. He pointed out that the ownership of the heavens and the earth belongs only to the Divine Creator. Therefore, he explained to this people, there cannot have been more than one deity. He clarified to them how the devil had deceived them for so long and that the time had come for this deceit to stop. Noah spoke to them of Allah's glorification of man, how HE had created him and provided him with sustenance and...

The Experience of Life Teaches That God Does Not Love Everyone The Plagues of

If God loved everyone we would live in a state of paradise. No death, no unhappiness, no controversy, no crime, no disease, etc. Yet, that is not the world we were born into. Our world includes innumerable evils and unbelievable horrors. This world was built for a struggle - good versus evil hell versus heaven. If God loved everyone we wouldn't have the following

The second belief in angels

Those angels who carry the Throne and those who surround it celebrate the praise of their Lord and believe in Him. They beg forgiveness for the believers ''Our Lord, You embrace all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who turn to you and follow Your path. Save them from the pains of Hell and admit them, Lord, to the everlasting Garden You have promised to them, and to their righteous forebears, spouses and offspring. You alone are the Almighty, the All-Wise. Protect them from evil deeds those You protect from evil deeds on that Day will receive Your mercy - that is the supreme triumph.'' (40 7-9)

Principles Of Historical Evidence Applicable To The Proof Of A Divine Revelation

The Christian documents were not found, like the Book of Mormon, in a cave, or in the custody of angels. Martineau, Seat of Authority, 322 The Mormon prophet, who cannot tell God from devil close at hand, is well up with the history of both worlds, and commissioned to get ready the second promised land. Washington Gladden, Who wrote the Bible An angel appeared to Smith and told him where he would find this book he went to the spot designated and found in a stone box a volume six inches thick, composed of thin gold plates, eight inches by seven, held together by three gold rings these plates were covered with writing, in the Reformed Egyptian tongue with this book were the Urim and Thummim, a pair of supernatural spectacles, by means of which he was able to read and translate this Reformed Egyptian language. Sagebeer, The Bible in Court, 113 If the ledger of a business firm has always been received and regarded as a ledger, its value is not at all impeached if it is impossible to tell...

Gehenna Located In This World

But in process of time Gehenna came to be an emblem of the consequences of sin, and to be employed figuratively by the Jews, to denote those consequences. But always in this world. The Jews never used it to mean torment after death, until long after Christ. That the word had not the meaning of post-mortem torment when our Savior used it, is demonstrable Josephus was a Pharisee, and wrote at about the time of Christ, and expressly says that the Jews at the time (corrupted from the teaching of Moses) believed in punishment after death, but he never employs Gehenna to denote the place of punishment. He uses the word Hadees, which the Jews had then obtained from the heathen, but he never uses Gehenna, as he would have done, had it possessed that meaning then. This demonstrates that the word had no such meaning then. In addition to this neither the Apocrypha, which was written from 280 to 150 years. B. C., nor Philo, ever uses the word. It was first used in the modern sense of Hell by...

Jewish Views Of Gehenna

Gehenna is the name given by Jews to Hell. Rev. H. N. Adler, a Jewish Rabbi, says They do not teach endless retributive suffering. They hold that it is not conceivable that a God of mercy and justice would ordain infinite punishment for finite wrong-doing. Dr. Dentsch declares There is not a word in the Talmud that lends any support to that damnable dogma of endless torment. Dr. Dewes in his Plea for Rational Translation, says that Gehenna is alluded to four or five times in the Mishna, thus The judgment of Gehenna is for twelve months Gehenna is a day in which the impious shall be burnt. Bartolocci declares that the Jews did not believe in a material fire, and thought that such fire as they did believe in would one day be put out. Rabbi Akiba, the second Moses, said The duration of the punishment of the wicked in Gehenna is twelve months. Adyoth 3 10. some rabbis said Gehenna only lasted from Passover to Pentecost. This was the prevalent conception. (Abridged from Excursus 5, in...

Jesus accepted honor and worship

Jesus demonstrated His divinity in yet another way when He said, . . . All should honor the Son just as they honor the Father (John 5 23). Over and over again, Jesus told His disciples to believe in Him as they would believe in God. Let not your heart be troubled you believe in God, believe also in Me (John 14 1). A Canaanite woman worshipped Him (Matthew 15 25). When Jesus met the women who came to His tomb after His resurrection, they worshipped Him, as did His apostles (Matthew 28 9, 17). The demon-possessed man of the Gadarenes, when He saw Jesus from afar . . . ran and worshiped Him (Mark 5 6). The blind man whom Jesus healed in John 9 worshipped Him (verse 38).

The Power Of A Picture

My mind then went to the whole concept of hell. My goodness, he said, his voice infused with astonishment, I couldn't hold someone's hand to a fire for a moment. Not an instant How could a loving God, just because you don't obey him and do what he wants, torture you forever-not allowing you to die, but to continue in that pain for eternity There is no criminal who would do this

In the sin of our first parents to whom did they yield their inheritance

After the fall of man, did the earth pass into the hands of Satan And the Devil, taking Him Jesus up into a high mountain, showed unto Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, And the Devil said unto Him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them for that is delivered unto me and to whomsoever I will, I give it. Luke 4 5, 6.

The Gospel Of The Kingdom

Our Lord Jesus Christ, Who took upon Him to die for all, stretched forth His hands, not somewhere on the earth beneath, but in the air itself, in order that the Salvation effected by the cross might be shown to men everywhere destroying the devil who was working in the air and that He might consecrate our road up to Heaven, and make it free.

Ascending to the Throne

The Millennium) begins only after His Return. Of course, this ignores the fact that Daniel had already prophesied the Kingdom beginning in the days of the Roman Empire. But notice exactly what Daniel says Christ is seen going up, not down The Son of man is going to the Ancient of Days, not coming ro 72 Him He is not descending in clouds to the earth, but ascending in clouds to His Father Daniel was not predicting the Second Coming of Christ, but rather the climax of the First Advent, in which, after atoning for sins and defeating death and Satan, the Lord ascended on the clouds of heaven to be seated on His glorious throne at His Father's right hand. It is noteworthy too that Daniel used the term Son of Man, the expression Jesus later adopted to describe Himself. Clearly, we should understand Son ofMan to mean simply Son of Adam in other words, the Second Adam. Christ came as the Son of Man, the Second Man (1 Cor. 15 47), to accomplish the task assigned to the First Man. He came to be...

The Dragon And The Woman

At this point, we are prepared to ask another question concerning this appropriation of power on the part of the beast. Where did she receive the authority to rule over the world for 1,260 years and to persecute so many millions of people for their faith The answer is found in Revelation 13 2, And the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. Notice that the power comes from the dragon. But who is the dragon Revelation 12 7-9 And there was war in heaven Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. The dragon, of course, is Satan himself. But when did Satan deceive the whole world When he was cast out of heaven, there were only two people on the earth, and they represented the...

Christianity And Islam

But serious admonitions are found which usually take the form of denunciation of the female sex and were early interpreted as warnings by tradition. 44 Fear the world and women 55 44 thy worst enemies are the wife at thy side and thy concubine 44 the least in Paradise are the women 55 44 women are the faggots of hell 44 pious women are rare as ravens with white or red legs and white beaks 44 but for women men might enter Paradise. Here we come upon a strain of thought especially Christian. Muhammed regarded the satisfaction of the sexual instincts as natural and right and made no attempt to put restraint upon it Christian asceticism regarded this impulse as the greatest danger which could threaten the spiritual life of its adherents, and the sentences above quoted may be regarded as the expression of this view. Naturally the social position of the woman suffered in consequence and is so much worse in the traditional Muhammedanism as compared

Studies in New Economic History

Concluded that church enforcement of property rights is a public good, but in contrast to the enforcement of property rights by the state, church authority can summon the supernatural enforcement mechanisms of heaven and hell. Hull maintains that this was a particularly important feature of the establishment of mendicant orders of the Roman Catholic Church at the beginning of the thirteenth century.62 By their practice of poverty, itinerant monks added quality assurance'' to the products being sold by the church, which, in turn, promoted efficient property and financial rights within the emerging towns and cities. The invention of purgatory and the establishment of the threat of hell and damnation at the time of death helped establish and enforce efficient standards of behavior. At the same time, social goods, such as abbeys, monasteries, hospitals, and schools, were also added to the mix of things that make up the product of the church. This new historical approach that seeks to...

Prediction of Enmity

After the fall of man, God pronounced a curse upon each participant in that original transgression. In Genesis 3 15, we read of the curse that was placed upon the devil or the dragon. And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Here is a prophecy of the age long struggle that would exist between the dragon But whom is the woman referred to in this prophecy A woman, in Bible prophecy, always represents the church. In leremiah 6 2 we read, I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman. Who is Zion Isaiah 51 16, And say unto Zion, Thou art my people. So the great controversy has been going on ever since Eden. There have been two sides from then until now. The dragon and his followers are arraigned against God and His followers. Truth versus error, and Satan versus the church.

The Growth of the Kingdom

Third, although the Kingdom was established definitively in the finished work of Christ, it is established progressively throughout history (until it is established finally on the Last Day). On the one hand, the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is now ruling the nations with a rod of iron He is now seated in power above all other rulers in heaven and earth, possessing all authority. On the other hand, the Bible also teaches that the Kingdom develops progressively, growing stronger and more powerful as time goes on. The same letter to the Ephesians that tells us of Christ's absolute rule over creation (1 20-22), assuring us that we are reigning with Him (2 6), also commands us to put on armor for battle against the devil (6 10-17). There is no contradiction here - just two aspects of the same reality. And the fact that Jesus is now ruling as King of kings is precisely the reason why we can have confidence of victory in our conflict with evil. We can experience progressive triumph now,...

The Seed of the Woman

The Roman Empire, then, is symbolized in Bible prophecy by the same red dragon as is the devil himself. Because Satan worked so closely through that nation to destroy Jesus, pagan Rome is represented by the same symbol in prophecy as the devil. But Herod did not succeed in his attempt to destroy the man-child. Mary and Joseph fled to Egypt and escaped the terrible decree. The masterstroke of Satan to destroy Jesus on the cross was foiled on that Sunday morning when the Crucified One broke the bonds of death in the resurrection. Forty days later, He was caught up to heaven in perfect fulfillment of the words of the prophecy. When the dragon saw that he was not able to destroy Christ, he turned his wrath against the early church. According to Revelation 12 13, When the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. At this time, there was only a small number of Christians in all the world, and Satan felt that he could completely...

The Faith of the Believers

Those (believers) unto whom the people (hypocrites) said Verily the people (pagans) have gathered against you (a great army), therefore, fear them. but it only increased them in Faith, and they said Allah Alone is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs for us. So they returned with Grace and Bounty from Allah. No harm touched them and they followed the good Pleasure of Allah. Allah is the Owner of Great bounty. It is only Satan that suggests to you the fear of his Auliya (supporters and friends, polytheists, disbeliveers in the Oneness of Allah and in His Messenger Muhammad) so fear them not but fear Me if you are true believers. (Ch 3 173-175 Quran)

Digression 5 The Principle Of Personification

Some may find it difficult to accept the explanation of the personification of the devil, because the devil is so often referred to in the Bible as if it were a person and perhaps this confuses some people. This is easily explained by pointing out that it is a recognized feature of the Bible that inanimate or non-living things such as wisdom, riches, sin, the church are personified, but only in the case of the devil is some fantastic theory woven around it. The following examples will illustrate the point -

Fairy tales being quest stories reflect this Truth of our salvation

Also caught up in this statement, is Tolkien's understanding of sub-creation. God is the Creator of the universe He is eternal and true and what he has created is universally good. Satan, on the other hand, cannot create he only corrupts and destroys what God has created. Satan despises God for having 'lowered Himself' and 'dirtied Himself' with matter, so he has wanted to implicate creation in his own fall to show God how he was wrong. Satan often mocks God. He is often referred to as the great Ape ol God. In making us in his image and likeness God has given us the ability to pro-create and also sub-create using our

Doctrine of Disobedience

The true saints of God are being prepared by Him to replace Satan and his demons in ruling over this earth. For Satan is now the god of this age (2 Corinthians 4 4). He is now the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience (Ephesians 2 2). Why have you not heard a lot more about this awesome purpose of the true Christian to exercise rulership in the future Because Satan wants to block this knowledge from reaching human beings so they will be unable to replace him and his demons in ruling this earth. Therefore he, the father of lies (John 8 44), has deceived the vast majority of all humanity including two billion professing Christians regarding God's purpose for man and the way to fulfill that purpose Among Satan's deceits, surely none is as great as his system of counterfeit Christianity The Apostles knew this was going to happen. Paul warned Let no one deceive you by any means for that Day of Christ's return will not come unless the falling...

Various Levels Of Initiation

Some of the other beliefs that the two share in common are a. the idea of invocations b. the old order must be destroyed so that a Golden Age of Illumined Ones can be established, c. the hierarchy is the mediator, not Christ d. Satan is the animal nature in man preventing him from becoming a God, e. the Ancient of Days in scripture is Sanat (the scrambling of Satan). These concepts are taught until one get high up in Masonry or goes into one of the more occultic masonic rites. Similar to the Jehovah's Witnesses she believes in a literal 144,000.

Questioning Old Assumptions

Scotland repeatedly appears as the source of much of the religious heresy connected with the Power. That C.T. Russell's family were in Scotland for a period, and also from the German states which seem to be a hot bed for Jewish Satanism may be only a coincidence and then again it might be a clue to understanding the origins of the Watchtower Society.
