Bishop John J. Wright, of the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese, said in a statement issued here that the plan has both local and national ecumenical significance.
"There must be a hundred corny jokes about the real and alleged differences between Knights of Columbus and Freemasons," he said. "Some of the jokes are funny, but most of them are tired."
He added that if all these jokes were combined they would not do as much "to relax and refresh the human spirit"
as does the news that the Nobles and Knights are joining in a charitable endeavor to help children.
The Knights of Columbus, through their Bishop Wright Project, aid mentally retarded children at St. Anthony's School, Oakmont, and the McGuire Memorial Home., New Brighton.
