Greater Armenian clergy, who decided that the time was ripe to implement their predecessors' frequently reiterated threats of schism. Thus in i44i the cathedral of Ejmiacin in the ancient capital of Valarsapat became the seat of an anti-catholicate, which soon established itself as the primary see of the whole church.121 The medieval Cilician episode in Armenian history had now come to an end.
