To whom was this promise to extend Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. Acts 2 38, 39.
Later on her boy reached the age of puberty and married a lady from them. Then an idea occurred to Abraham, which he disclosed to his wife (sarah). 'I want to call on my dependants I left at Mecca.' When he went there he greeted Ishmael's wife and said 'where is Ishmael ' She replied 'He has gone out hunting.' Abraham said to her 'When he comes, tell him to change the threshold of his gate.' When Ishmael came she told him the same and whereupon Ishmael said to her 'you are the threshold so go to your family (you are divorced).'
It is my desire that graves and tombs remain sealed for the benefit of those who have made them and for their children, family members, and their religion. If, however, anyone accuses that another has either destroyed them, removed the buried, or with ill intent has taken them to other places in order to wrong them, or has removed the sealing on other stones, I order that person be brought to trial. Just as a man should respect the gods, so also with regard to men, for all should respect the buried. It is therefore forbidden for anyone to disturb them. Should this edict be violated, the offender is to be sentenced to capital punishment on the charge of violating a sepulcher.
School officials and professors, to be sure, offer the main line of attack on Christians and Christian values, but they are closely supported by various other institutional arms of the university. The aforementioned professor Mike Adams told of the work of the Women's Resource Center at UNC-Wilmington in steering pregnant students to the rabidly pro-abortion Planned Parenthood, while trying to impede efforts of pro-life groups to provide counseling services. Notably, research has emerged showing that the majority of women who have abortions experience some kind of emotional or psychological problem. Yet groups like the Women's Resource Center and Planned Parenthood, which bill themselves as pro-choice, curiously don't seem to want pregnant women exposed to all the relevant information to enable them to make an informed and reasoned decision. Such behavior, rife on university campuses as well as in society at large, clearly bespeaks of an extreme pro-abortion mentality. This extremism...
Iblis again gathered his helpers and set about his evil deeds. He shook the fountain of the house in which Job's children were living and sent the building crashing, killing all of them. Then he went to Job disguised as a man who had come to sympathize with him. In a comforting tone he said to Job The circumstances under which your children died were sad. Surely, your Lord is not rewarding you properly for all your prayers. Having said this, Iblis waited anxiously hoping Job was now ready to reject Allah.
The soft-spoken, self-effacing Bradley, who talks with an unhurried Texas drawl, is a strong family man. His two children and five grandchildren all live near each other in College Station, and they get together frequently. In fact, his wife, Ann daughter, Sharon and grandchildren Rachel, Daniel, and Elizabeth joined us for lunch at a local delicatessen after our interview.
While the law does include a limited religious exemption that covers churches themselves, Poust said the measure was very clearly drawn to eliminate Catholic hospitals and nursing homes and Catholic charitable agencies-social service agencies-and to eliminate schools and universities All of the ministries of the Church, in effect, have been excluded and deemed to be not Catholic by the state of New York. Poust added that he anticipated that in the future the same political groups may push through a bill establishing mandatory coverage for elective abortions. Pro-abortion forces are trying to get it to the point where the Church cannot remain in the business of providing health and human services. Get us out of the way because we're bad for business for Planned Parenthood, said Poust. Planned Parenthood fired back, saying they were troubled that Catholic social service groups, which are staffed by committed women of many faiths and serve diverse communities,
McNear Elementary School in Petaluma, California, arguably went further by sponsoring an el Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. Parents and others strongly disapproved of the program, not because it taught about the cultural significance of this traditional Mexican holiday, but because students were encouraged to take part in rituals related to it, such as creating altars and bringing photos of deceased family members to school. Children were led to place the pictures of their dead relatives and pets on the altar in remembrance of them. Objecting parents considered this a form of religious activity. One outraged parent remarked, They can teach about it, but they're not supposed to be celebrating I have the right to send my daughter to school to learn math, reading, and writing without having a religious ritual shoved down her throat.
Concentrated in the Connecticut area, and from there their family members moved out into NY and PA. Another Ackley (1832-1881) at that time was Richard Thomas Ackley, a Freemason who worked for the Miller, Russell and Company store in Salt Lake City in 1858 soon after the Mormons built Salt Lake City.
And encourage them to go and do likewise. Even if they don't inspire immediate mayhem, the plays so titillate theatergoers with images that they store up in their souls, in the words of John Chrysostom - another church father who took a low view of the theater - that when they return home, they find the humdrum reality of their lives unbearable. In competition with these images, your wife seems rather distasteful, your children seem rather tiresome, your servants a nuisance and your house too much, and the usual cares associated with running the necessary affairs of the household appear troublesome, and everyone who belongs to it is tiresome and a nuisance. 16
Increasingly visible, the quest for authentic selfhood would therefore also involve a sexual liberation in which a woman admits to and acts upon her own sexual desires, rather than allowing these desires to be shaped or suppressed by the roles to which she is expected to conform. For both men and women it would also involve a new freedom of choice about when, how and with whom sex is performed (depending on what feels right ), and a lessening of the pressures to confine sex to the boundaries of heterosexual marriage. For men this involved a loosening of identification with the role of paternal care and responsibility, whilst for women identification with the role of mother was loosened by the separation of sex from reproduction, but retained by the stalled revolution, which saw men cut loose from parenting responsibilities and the work of care to a far greater extent than women.15 you fulfilled your duty as a good Catholic girl, dutifully committing yourself to your family, as your...
Hauerwas is clearest when describing the American situation. By his analysis, the churches configure themselves in light of prevailing political, economic, and cultural arrangements. America needs Christianity, and churches clamor to satisfy that need, either in conservative support or in progressive critique. The upshot is a blending and blurring that make Christian character and practice invisible. What is the difference between a generic law-and-order, family-values conservative, and a spokesman for the Christian Right What is the difference
The way Ausonius used the dignified classical poetic forms of Rome's literary golden age is similar to the way that the Roman senators appealed to the authority of Rome's imperial past to justify its traditional pagan religious practices. As members of the aristocracy, Christians and pagans had unique access to the classical education, which, in turn, guaranteed their political clout. It was an exclusive selective circle that religious considerations did not breach. Ausonius was no unassuming Christian professor. He was a professionally trained classical poet who had more in common with wealthy, privileged Roman senators like Symmachus than with the less-educated bureaucrats in the Christian court of Valentinian. Indeed, he and Symmachus met while Symmachus was at court in 368 C.E. and their correspondence reveals a complicated web of mutual acquaintances and reciprocal acts ofpatronage. Ausonius's actions at Valentinian's death (375 C.E.) further reveal his patrician, more than his...
The major point however is that in contradiction to theories of courtly love, Enide had (unwittingly ) set up Erec whose ego then impelled him to seek and overcome obstacles, and she remains Erec's friend, lover, and spouse. Only in an apparent rejection is he able to recognize her perfect love. Because Enide held to her husband through all the contests, she proved the permanence of her feelings. Although Chretien describes their love several times as bodily union (''together their hearts united in bed and they kissed''), their feelings for one another, and to the poet this is essentially more important, are the foundation of a socially usable relationship Eric is allowed to become the ideal knight, Enide the ideal lady. Their love story contradicts both the claim that only unhappy love has a history (Tristan and Isolde) and that ''happy families are all alike'' (the modern romance by Tolstoy, Anna Karenina).
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone Or if he ask for a fish, will he give him a serpent If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him Matt. 7 9-11. Or what man is there of you whom, if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him Matt. 7 9-11. But Zion said, the Lord has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget you. Isa. 49 14, 15.
Exposing the Holy Bible to a routine process of revisions, and thereby publishing and selling new editions of the Bible, has become a really prolific source of trade. Each and every European family keeps a copy of the Holy Bible the Old and New Testaments in their home, no matter whether the family members believe in it or not. As a matter of fact, most European villagers read no other book than the Holy Bible, which is the only book they know. The cultural level of the European people is not as high as we think it is. Those who live in villages know how to read and write, but they are quite unaware of what is going on in the world. They read only the Holy Bible. Consequently, every new (revised) edition of the Holy Bible is printed in millions of copies and earns its publishers millions of pounds yearly. Then, no other job can yield more profit than does the regular job of revising and publishing the Holy Bible yearly.
O, Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that killed the prophets, and stoned them which are sent unto you how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not Behold your house is left unto you desolate. Matt. 23 37, 38
Hour except for a great necessity.' So Allah's Messenger came and asked permission to enter, and he was allowed to enter. When he entered, he said to Abu Bakr Tell everyone who is present with you to go away.' Abu Bakr replied 'There are none but your family, May my father be sacrificed for you, O Allah's Messenger ' The Prophet said 'I have been given permission to migrate.' Abu Bakr said 'Shall I accompany you May my father be sacrificed for you, O Allah's Messenger ' Allah's Messenger said 'Yes.' Abu Bakr said, 'O Allah's Messenger May my father be sacrificed for you, take one of these two she-camels of mine.' Allah's Messenger replied 'I will accept it with payment.' So we prepared the baggage quickly and put some journey food in a leather bag for them. Asma, Abu Bakr's daughter, cut a piece from her waist belt and tied the mouth of the leather bag with it, and for that reason she was named 'Dhat-un-Nitaqain' (the owner of two belts).
Upon receiving the note, Szabo sent his supervisor an e-mail, with a copy to all the recipients of his supervisor's original e-mail, requesting that he not send him this type of information as he found it disgusting and offensive. The supervisor then sent another e-mail to the original employee recipients, apologizing for Szabo's remarks. Its contents are instructive regarding tolerance They demand that everyone adopt the corporation's values. As you all know, read the supervisor's response, our strategic thrust to build a Winning & Inclusive Culture drives us to behave in ways that value everyone regardless of differences. While I understand that we are all free to have our own personal beliefs, when we come to the Kodak workplace, our behaviors must align with the Kodak Values. I apologize for the e-mail sent to all of you from Rolf Szabo this morning. Rolf's comments are hurtful to our employees, friends, and family members who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgendered. Taking up his argument from an earlier article (LOR 26 Sep 68), the Cardinal fully documents his thesis that Pope Paul VI's Humanae Vitae was entirely consistent with the pastoral Constitution Gaudium et Spes of Vatican II, and not a departure, as some theologians argued. He shows the concepts operating in the discussions which preceded, and resulted in, Gaudium et Spes, and which generally reflect the same moral perspective as Humanae Vitae, most notably in regard to contraception. And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your heart and you shall teach them diligently to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. (Deut. 6 6-7) All the people of Israel were expected to be able to understand the words of Scripture well enough to be able to teach them diligently to their children. This teaching would not have consisted merely of rote memorization devoid of understanding, for the people of Israel were to discuss the words of Scripture during their activities of sitting in the house or walking or going to bed or getting up in the morning. God expected that all of his people would know and be able to talk about his Word, with proper application to ordinary situations in life. Similarly, Psalm 1 tells us that the blessed man, whom all the righteous in Israel were to emulate, was one who meditated on God's law day and night (Ps. 1 2). This daily meditation...
James Dobson is the founder and chairman of Focus on the Family, a communications, counseling and resource ministry dedicated to the preservation of the home. Dr. Dobson is heard daily by more than 200 million people on over 4,200 radio stations throughout the world. He is a licensed psychologist with a Ph.D. in Child Development from the University of Southern California School of Medicine.
Nevertheless, the emigration of Christians steadily increased through the later nineteenth and the twentieth centuries. And it must be said that economic attractions cannot provide a full explanation for the exodus of substantial parts of the Arab Christian population of the late Ottoman and nation-state Middle Eastern world. Where there is tension within society, and discrimination between religions, and where increased Islamization marginalizes followers of other faiths - all factors recognizable from early Islamic times and attributable by theologians and ideologues to the Our'an and the precedent of the Prophet and his successors - there is little incentive to stay when family members press invitations to join them overseas and the prospects at home are dim. The Christian population of the Arab world had by the beginning of the present century reached a low point never seen before, and there is no sign of reversal. While the long history of Arab Christianity continues, it does so...
Actually endorsing the status quo by embracing uncritically the power mechanisms which kept them in place. These sociologists exposed the biological essentialism on which many of the male-female roles were predicated. Sexuality had been biologically defined, and the analysis of social roles built on an assumed biological basis of behavior. Now it became evident that work or family roles were not simply correlated to our biology but related to power structures which operated through conventions, legal statutes, and educational expectations. Women did not spend most of their time in housework and child-care because they were hard-wired through chromosomes or hormones to find these pursuits satisfying and fulfilling, but because children needed to be cared for, homes needed to be cleaned, and the lot fell to them. Moreover, the structure of employment and the education system were constructed in such a way as to make it difficult for them to gain access to the sorts of jobs open to men.
Most Masonic Lodges and Masonic affiliated bodies provide funds and services for those in need. Some of these activities include helping children who are crippled or burned or who have learning disabilities or visual prohlems, or who need denial restoration, and contributing to cancer and other research and to other health and rehabilitation services. Masons and Masonically related bodies spend over two million dollars a day for charitable and benevolent purposes. In addition to National and Statewide programs, help is extended to solve personal problems, such as paying medical bills, restoring fire or flood damaged homes and assist-
The God of Israel expects not just a portion but all of Israel's love ''Hear, O Israel The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might'' (Deut. 6 4-5). Love to God is not wordless rapture, but is reciprocal and capable of expression. Hence, God's commands and prohibitions shall be kept ''in your heart,'' and publicly expressed and passed on to the next generation. ''Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. Bind them as a sign on your hand, fix them as an emblem on your forehead, and write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates'' (Deut. 6 7-9).
Human sexuality has been approved, sometimes grudgingly, as a divine arrangement for populating the world. The union of a man and a woman has seemed a matter of duty and obedience and delight, devotion and even companionship have looked like optional and unofficial extras. Meanwhile, realists have understood that men want pleasure as well as parenthood so marriage has been conceded the secondary role of providing harmlessly for male waywardness. When women claim the same rights to pleasure as men, longer-term human happiness still goes by default. The reduction of sexual relationship to pleasure constrained by duty is hard enough on men it is even harder on women.
Yes, sometimes we have run afoul of cultural sensitivities. At the same time, however, Eastern religions have a lot of soul-searching to do in this regard today. Clannish and political conflicts aside, I know of no Christianized country where your life is in danger because you are from another faith. But today there are many countries in the world-such as Pakistan, Saudia Arabia, and Iran-where to become a follower of Christ is to put your life and your family at risk.
Mitzner, in The Wanderer (June 29, 1989) encourages Christians to opose those Jewish forces that are corrupting the morals of this country. He writes, It was not anti-German to oppose Nazism, nor anti-Russian to oppose Bolshevism. It is not anti-Semitic to oppose the forces within the Jewish community which are waging war against you and your family.
For Epictetus, people's ability to decide between what is right and wrong defines their liberty, so that we may most accurately refer to volitional bondage or freedom. Epictetus recognizes that many things are outside the control of the individual. Because a person cannot control external circumstances, it is impossible to choose wealth, a good reputation, physical well-being, or a happy family. But liberty is unrelated to riches, a good name, health, or kinship
And if you cannot look at these things with discerning eyes, yet however, have pity upon your families, and set before every one of your eyes your children, and wives, and parents, who will be gradually consumed either by famine or by war. I am sensible that this danger will extend to my mother, and wife, and to that family of mine who have been by no means ignoble, and indeed to one that bath been very eminent in old time and perhaps you may imagine that it is on their account only that I give you this advice if that be all, kill them nay, take my own blood as a reward, if it may but procure your preservation for I am ready to die in case you will but return to a sound mind after my death.
Bradley Thompson, chairman of the Department of History and Political Science at Ashland University in Ohio, attended the annual meeting of the American Historical Association, the largest organization of academic historians in America. Thompson said that what he saw and heard shocked him. The ideas expressed at this conference, he noted, were utterly subversive of American culture and values and will eventually make their way into your child's classroom. He said there were over 200 panels, but not one of them covered such subjects as the American Revolution, the Civil War, or the two World Wars. What was covered to the saturation point were topics ranging from the banal to the bizarre and perverse. Thompson provided these examples Meditations on a Coffee Pot Visual Culture and Spanish America, 1520-1820, The Joys of Cooking Ideologies of Housework in Early Modern England, and Body, Body, Burning Bright Cremation in Victorian America. Regrettably, Thompson's words ring true. But...
Anathema to your family who profaned Greece with you anathema to your father who gave you his seed anathema to your mother who nurtured such a snake in her womb accursed and wretched man May you stay for ever in the darkness of our religion that you didn't respect may no one be close to you and close your eyes when you die so that you keep your eyes open even when dead and see the country you have betrayed anathema to your soul, anathema to the chaos you have created anathema to your memory, anathema to all who remember you, anathema, anathema, anathema.
How does the Saviour illustrate the willingness of Heaven to grant favors to those who ask If ye, then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him Matt. 7 11. Through what means are these gifts received Everyone that asketh receiveth. Matt. 7 8. If ye, then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask Him. Matt. 7 11. Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it you. John 16 23. Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. John 16 24.
Dear one, have you ever truly yielded your life to Christ Have you ever truly surrendered yourself to Him There is life for a look at the crucified One. Won't you come to Him and yield your heart Say, Lord Jesus Christ, melt this cold, hard heart of mine. I want you as my Savior and I want to be your child. Lord Jesus Christ, I yield myself to You. I open my heart. Come in and
The second commercial is composed of fast cuts that tell a story with the following sequence An ambulance with siren wailing races through the nighttime streets of an Asian city a man hurries across a university campus, judging from its architecture one located in the US or western Europe, and up a marble staircase a gurney rushes down hospital corridors, concerned family members accompany it the man reaches the top of the stairs, enters a room containing some serious technology, dons virtual reality goggles and gloves and plugs himself into a computer an operating room back in Asia hands in gloves maneuver in midair, holding nothing close up of actual scalpel cutting actual flesh an Asian man lying in a hospital bed, awake, smiling, being caressed by his wife. A newspaper headline appears Virtual Surgery. The screen fades to black and the motto returns now it gets interesting .
To them The promise is unto you, and to your children (Acts 2 39), perhaps referring to Joel's prophecy that the spirit would be given to the Jews and to their children (Acts 2 17 cp. Joel 2 28-32). There may also be a hint here that the promise of these miraculous gifts was only to those two generations - those listening to Peter, and their children.
Taking a more optimistic view of these developments, Scott Adams, the creator of the comic strip Dilbert, wrote a curious book recently that promotes the equation of God and the Internet. In the book, God's Debris A Thought Experiment, Adams stages a lengthy conversation between a mysterious old man named Avatar and a package delivery man who delivers the old man a package then stays through the night, sitting by the fire, as Avatar spins metaphysical tales. Through Avatar, Adams speculates that the world as we know it began when God blew himself to bits, and that the span of cosmic history is the long process by which God's debris is reassembling itself. Every element of reality is a bit of God human beings happen to be the bits through which God is recovering his consciousness. With every action that integrates the discrete elements of the world into a more complete harmony, God is further revived. Avatar explains, Every economic activity helps. Whether you are programming...
As it turned out, Ron Bronski survived my cynical attempts to skewer his story. The street-savvy police detectives were absolutely convinced that the changes in his life were authentic. So was the prosecutor. After hearing the evidence, the judge agreed, and instead of sentencing him to the penitentiary, he set him free on probation. Go home and be with your family, he told a surprised and grateful Bronski.
Them, from whatever source, will be sure to bear its legitimate fruit in due time. On this point, the Rev. T. De Witt Talmage has well said You may tear your coat or break a vase, and repair it again but the point where the rip or the fracture took place will always be evident. It takes less than an hour to do your heart a damage which no time can entirely repair. Look carefully over your child's library see what book it is that he reads after he has gone to bed. Do not always take it for granted that a book is good because it is a Sunday-school book. As far as possible, know who wrote it, who illustrated it, who published it, who sold it. It seems that in the literature of the day, the ten plagues of Egypt have returned, and the frogs and the lice have hopped and skipped over our parlor tables. Parents are delighted to have their children read, but they should be sure as to what they read. You do not have to walk a day or two in an infected district to get the cholera or typhoid...
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her How often I wanted to synagogue your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. Behold, your House is being left to you desolate (Matt. 23 37-38).
Now let us examine the Holy Bible from a textual point of view to see what it is endeavouring to imbue into mankind
How appalling These abominable stories are rejected even by some Christians. A 1977 issue of the magazine Plain Truth contained an article purporting the following warning Be extra careful as you teach the Holy Bible to your children For there are indecent stories of fornication in the Holy Bible. Children that read these stories may develop some abnormalities concerning relations between family members. These indecent stories, which mostly appear in the Old Testament, must be discarded entirely and children must be given a Holy Bible purged from such impurities. The magazine also adds that The Holy Bible should definitely be subjected to an analysis. Presently, it encourages young people to immoral indulgences, rather than imbuing them with high moral qualities. Bernard Shaw, the well-known man of literature, goes to an extreme in this subject. He is of the opinion that The Torah and the Bible are the most dangerous books of the world. They must be locked in a strong safe lest they...
Then when the Messengers (the angels) came unto the family of Lot, he said Verily You are people unknown to me. They said Nay we have come to you with that (torment) which they have been doubting. And we have brought to you the truth (the news of the destruction of your nation) and certainly, we tell the truth. Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered.
(used by eighty-seven percent of public school students), Vitz didn't find one that imparted the spirituality of the Pilgrims. Vitz wrote, Are public school textbooks biased Are they censored The answer to both is yes, and the nature of the bias is clear Religion, traditional family values and many conservative positions have been reliably excluded from children's textbooks There is not one story or article in all these books in which the central motivation or major content is connected to Judeo-Christian religions In grades one through four these books introduce the child to U.S. society-to family life, community activities, ordinary economic transactions, and some history. None of the books covering grades one through four contains one word referring to any religious activity in contemporary American life. Vitz concluded, Religion, especially Christianity, has played and continues to play a central role in our culture and history. To neglect to report this is simply to fail to carry...
Jesus is a ''huge improvement, ' but his ethnocentrism is still a scandal, and his critical posture toward his own mother and siblings is not one to promote family values (250). Furthermore, the entire Christian drama of redemption is morally perverse If God wanted to forgive our stns, why not just forgive them, without having himself tortured and executed in payment thereby, incidentally, condemning remote future generations of Jews to pogroms and persecution as Christ-killers did that hereditary sin pass down in the semen too (253). Whyi then, would anyone call the Bible a.good book
Those who have not experienced love from those who should have given it, namely parents or other family members, often have a difficult time loving others. Without the example of love from others, we would not know love. Love is something that cannot be explained to us we simply have to experience it firsthand. We don't know how to love until it is shown to us first.
While our politically correct culture is quick to denounce anyone who shows the slightest insensitivity to homosexuals and most other groups, Christians again receive no such respect. In fact, the culture revels in anti-Christian art and theater, and in various other ways disrespects Christianity and the things it holds sacred. For eight years, during the Christmas season, Planned Parenthood has been promoting Choice on Earth Christmas cards, adapted from the biblical text Peace on Earth. The phrase is derived from Luke 2 13-14, And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Pro-life advocates argue that the Christmas message was being degraded into Abortion on Earth. Jim Sedlak, of STOPP International, a project of American Life League, said, What choice on Earth' really means is abortion on Earth In the season that celebrates the birth of Jesus, it is absolutely...
On the other hand, God warned, the Curse would reappear if the people turned away from God's law I will let loose among you the beasts of the field, which shall bereave you of your children and destroy your cattle and reduce your number so that your roads lie deserted (Lev. 26 22 cf. Num. 21 6 Deut. 28 26 2 Kings 2 24 17 25 Ezek. 5 17 14 15 32 4 Rev. 6 8). When a culture departs from God, He surrenders its people to the dominion of wild animals, in order to prevent them from having ungodly dominion over the earth. But in a godly culture this threat against life and property will progressively disappear and, ultimately, when the knowledge of God shall cover the earth, the animals will be tamed, and harnessed again to the service of God's Kingdom.
Whether or not this philosophical critique was heeded, the ancient monuments that fill today's museums show that the production of portrait images was widespread in the ancient world and no less in the Roman Empire in Late Antiquity. The disapproval of intellectuals does not appear to have affected the population's desire for artistic representations of family members, great heroes, rulers, statesmen, and the gods. However, the question of what constituted a worthy portrait or likeness is complex. Although the ancient Egyptians may have been the first to have fashioned porlrait-like art works, art historians (like many ancient philosophers) generally credit Greek sculptors with the first recognizable artistic likenesses, a development that characterized the transition from the archaic to the classical period reflecting an increased emphasis on individuality and naturalism over standardized types or forms. From that time on, classical portrait images ranged back and forth on a spectrum...
Mary was a virgin in the strictest sense. She had never had a sexual relationship with any man when Jesus was conceived in her womb. But she was not a perpetual virgin either, as so many other Christians believe (CP Mt 1 24-25). and knew her not till she had brought forth her first-born son , means that Joseph did consummate his marriage with Mary after the birth of Jesus. Mary had at least seven children with Joseph after Jesus was born (CP Mt 12 46-47 13 53-56 Mk 3 20-21 6 1-3). Friends in Mk 3 20-21 (KJV), means immediate family members. This is confirmed in V31-32 (CP V31-32 Lu 8 19-20 (see also comments on Mt 12 46-47 and Mk 3 20-21)).
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing See Your house is left to you desolate for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD ' As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace - but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and your children within your walls. They will not leave
The Maccabees, called the Hasmoneans from their ancestor Hashmon, emerged to rule, first as high priests, then as priest-kings, after leading a revolution against the Seleucid ruler Antiochus IV Epiphanes (175-163 B.C.E.) and the Hellenized high priests (Jason and Menelaus) whom he had appointed. In the bargain, the Maccabees had initiated an alliance or amicitia with Rome, which had established dominion in Greece and Asia in a series of wars with Philip V of Macedon and Antiochus III in Asia. The Hasmoneans ruled from 161 B.C.E. until internal wars among competing family members left Judea vulnerable to foreign domination. In 63 B.C.E., Pompey the Great conquered Judea and introduced Roman rule.
When Ishmael came, he seemed to have felt something unusual, so he asked his wife Has anyone visited you she replied, Yes, an old man of such and such description came and asked me about you and I informed him and he asked about our state of living and I told him that we were living in a hardship and poverty. On that Ishmael said Did he advise you anything She said Yes he told me to convey his salutation to you and to tell you to change the threshold of your gate. Ishmael said It was my father and he has ordered me to divorce you. Go back to your family. So, Ishmael divorced her and married another woman from among them (Jurhum).
With Islam, you don't need the state any more to do right, you seek what is right in yourself. Islam means speaking without shame, it means not being disturbed, speaking gently and considerately avec douceur et delicatesse , speaking from your heart and also speaking from your head. It is peace and tranquility. It means you have to educate your children, respecting family and neighbors, doing the five prayers, giving alms without stinting, being generous. Religion means peace toward yourself and your neighbor. Al Rasul the prophet Muhammad prayed with Christians as brothers, while Muslims reject them today. A neighbor is also a brother. You mustn't do to others what you don't want for yourself. It's God who judges.2
That's the point, and this points us to the Torah. You cannot inherit eternal life without it, and you cannot obey without the New Covenant having OWWhy come in and write Torah on your heart. You cannot receive Him, and not receive the love for His Torah. Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the Earth will awake some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are WISE will shine like the brightness of the skies, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. (Dan. 12 1-4). This means they will endure like the stars, unchanging. If they were already in a place called heaven , then they wouldn't be asleep , or coming from heaven, would they So, if your pastor tells you your dead family members are in heaven with the LORD , kindly remind him what the Writings say. If you really want to stand out, wear white to funerals.
Congressman Tom DeLay has been outspoken about his Christian faith, frequently lacing his speeches with biblical references and Christian messages. DeLay came under criticism for his response to a question following his speeches at a Worldview Weekend conference in Houston, Texas. An audience member asked him what could be done about colleges in Texas that preclude the teaching of creation. DeLay answered that those concerned could call their state representatives and voice their objections. They can change things, he said. They can throw the PC out and bring God in. That would take some time, DeLay said, but the immediate remedy is don't send your kids to Baylor-don't send your kids to A&M.
Say Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited you from Join not anything in worship with Him be good and dutiful to your parents kill not your children because of poverty- We provide sustenance for you and for them come not near to shameful sins (illegal sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly and kill not anyone whom Allah has forbidden, except for a just cause (according to Islamic law). This He has commanded you that you may understand. And come not near to the orphan's property, except to improve it, until he or she attains the age offull strength and give full measure and full weight with justice. We burden not any person but that which he can bear. And whenever you give your word (judge between men or give evidences, etc.) , say the truth even if a near relative is concerned, and fulfill the Covenant of Allah. This He commands you, that you may remember. (Ch 6 151-152 Quran).
The privacy of the home was no less important as an environment of learning and scholarship. Intensive and advanced instruction was often carried out in the homes of scholars or wealthy patrons, as were formal scholarly debates. The seclusion of the home offered a sheltered space for the airing of controversial arguments beyond the reach of governmental interference the state had limited ability and, in cases of non-political ''heresy'', little incentive to police and enforce orthodoxy in the private realm. The home also typically represented the first or even the only place of education for children, with family members serving as the first teachers. The acquisition of certain basic facts was considered a religious obligation for every Muslim, whether male or female. At the minimum, children were taught the basic tenets of belief and the correct performance of duties such as purification, prayer, almsgiving and fasting, but beyond this the content of study was not determined.
Is mutual obligation enjoined in a well appointed home Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right. Honor thy father and mother which is the first commandment with promise that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Eph. 6 1-4.
He ruled them savagely and punished them cruelly. He killed a third of them, captured a third, and spared the lame and the old then h trampled upon them with the horses, demolished their houses, drew the youth along, and stood the women in the market places as guards. He intimidated the troops and destroyed the castles and temples. He burned the Torah. He asked about Daniel, the prophet who had written to him, but he was dead. His family took out the letter which he had written to him. Among the family members were Daniel the youngest son of Ezekiel, Azariah, and Mishael. He left that letter for them. The younger Daniel succeeded the elder Daniel. Nabuchadnezzar entered Jerusalem with his troops, then marched to Syria. He killed the children of Israel until he almost exterminated them. He returned to Babylon with booty in the form of treasure and men, among them young princes and children of priests numbering seventy thousand.
Another manner by which the media demonstrate their anti-Christian bias is in the selection of news stories and the relative emphasis placed on them. The Media Research Center (MRC) reported that the media rather downplayed the massive March for Life in Washington, D.C., on the thirtieth anniversary of the United States Supreme Court's decision Roe v. Wade. An antiwar march just four days before was scarcely attended, yet the broadcast networks' morning and evening news shows ran a total of twenty-six segments on the event, fourteen before the march began. By contrast, the March for Life, in which tens of thousands participated, received a mere nine segments. In fact, the networks often merged the segments on the pro-life march with those on counter-demonstrations by pro-abortion groups with around one hundred in attendance, fostering the false impression that neither side of the debate was better attended than the other. And even though a Planned Parenthood rally drew an estimated...
A crib is a model of the stable where Jesus was born, featuring the holy family, shepherds, animals, and magi. This example comes from El Salvador. Cribs are a good visual aid for teaching children about the Christmas story - and are a reminder to all of the Christmas message.
In this vein, Reverend Mark Bigelow, a clergy advisor for Planned Parenthood, wrote a letter on November 22, 2002, to Bill O'Reilly, host of Fox News Network's The O'Reilly Factor. Even as a minister, said Bigelow, I am careful what I presume Jesus would do if he were alive today, but one thing I know from the Bible is that Jesus was not against women having a choice in continuing a pregnancy. Jesus was for peace on earth, justice on earth, compassion on earth, mercy on earth, and choice on earth. Ed Szymkowiak, national director of STOPP International, called Bigelow's comments blasphemous. He said, I defy either Planned Parenthood president Gloria Feldt or her clergy advisory board member, Reverend Mark Bigelow, to cite chapter and verse to support Rev. Bigelow's perverse claim that the Bible indicates 'that Jesus was not against women having a choice in continuing a pregnancy.' Planned Parenthood has publicly indicated its religion is 'choice' and its sacrament is abortion....
Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call (vs. 38, 39).
According to a four-year study reported in the April 2003 issue of the Journal of Adolescent and Family Health, the principal reason for the decline in birth and pregnancy rates of teenage girls is abstinence, not condom use. The report concluded that abstinence accounted for one hundred percent of the teen birthrate decline and sixty-seven percent in the decline in the pregnancy rate for single teens. The study refuted findings of the Alan Guttmacher Institute, frequently cited in the last few years, that seventy-five percent of the decline in pregnancy rate is attributable to contraceptive use and twenty-five percent to abstinence. Research-ten separate scientific evaluations-has suggested that abstinence-centered education has been highly effective (much more effective than safe sex and condom distribution programs) in reducing sexual activity rates, sexually transmitted diseases, teenage abortion rates, and the number of children born into single-parent families.3 Yet most...
According to Tillich, we encode our ultimate concerns in the language of religious symbols. In order to speak of the ultimate, we must borrow from our experience of ordinary reality. Thus, in the Bible, God is referred to as creative, compassionate, powerful, good, abiding, just, wrathful, steadfast, fatherly, loving, etc. These terms all describe a range of attributes and actions drawn primarily from human behavior, and then, by analogy, extended to describe God. This has the dual effect of making the mystery of the divine comprehensible and valorizing certain human traits. Religious symbols are double-edged, Tillich writes, they force the infinite down to finitude and the finite up to infinity. For example, to speak of God as father makes the divine approachable by diminishing the infinite to a finite, familiar condition, while at the same time it consecrates parent - child relationships.29
QUESTION Who is OWYhl ANSWER He is the Word of Life , and anyone who acknowledges the Son of hYhy has the Father. And this is the testimony hYhy has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life he who does not have the Son of hYhy does not have life. (1John 5 11,12). The reason He appeared was to destroy the devil's work. We know we have come to know Him if we obey His Commands. (1John 2 3). His indwelling enables us to do no sin. OWYhy is the Mashiach, Who came in the flesh, Who, being in very nature hYhy, did not consider equality with hYhy something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. (Philippians 2 6,7). OWYhy is the image of the invisible hYhy, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created things in Shamayim and on Earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or authorities all things were created by Him and for Him He is the beginning and...
For four years running, pro-life activists Mark Gabriel and Michael O'Hare peacefully demonstrated on the public sidewalk outside an abortion clinic owned by Planned Parenthood in Grand Chute, Wisconsin. The signs they carried neither blocked the sidewalk nor obstructed traffic, and they have been an important part of carrying their message to the public. The city cited Gabriel for violating a city ordinance prohibiting signs from public rights of way, and he was jailed for refusing in protest to pay the fine. After repeated threats of further tickets and fines, the men decided to file a suit against the city for using an unconstitutional ordinance to encroach on their liberties. As their attorney, Liberty Counsel's Mathew D. Staver, put it, From the time of the founding of this country, the parks, streets, and sidewalks have been places where free speech has been allowed to thrive and survive. Clearly this ordinance is unconstitutional. Our clients were lawfully and peacefully...
THESE ARE TO BE DILIGENTLY TAUGHT TO YOUR CHILDREN, AND POSTED ON THE DOORPOSTS OF YOUR HOME. (Dt. 6). NOTE Roman Catholicism eliminated the 2nd (so as to continue the Pagan behavior of bowing and kneeling before images), and split the 10th Commandment into two, so as to maintain 10. They briefly outlawed images during the 8th century, but after 34 years without them, reverted back by wiping out the dogma. (At the Council of Constantinople in 754, image worship and images were abolished. In 788, worship of the cross, relics (dead bones), and images were re-authorized. Source The Catholic Encyclopedia
Examples - The Pharisees accused Jesus of doing miracles by the power of a false god called Beelzebub. Jesus said, If I by Beelzebub cast out demons, by whom do your children cast them out (Matthew 12 27). 2 Kings 1 2. clearly tells us that Beelzebub was a false god of the Philistines. Jesus did not say, 'Now look, 2 Kings 1 2 says Beelzebub was a false god, so your accusation cannot be true'. No, he
Linda Woodhead also argues that the history of sex and the modern church is ultimately a history of women and their changing desires. Though she sees less of a break between the pre-Reformation and modern church than Shaw - arguing that the church has always promoted some form of family values, even when idealizing celibacy - she nevertheless agrees with Shaw that the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century saw the rise of a new concern with the family as the only legitimate place for women. And this was only intensified in the nineteenth century, when the church, increasingly without influence in the political sphere, focused its power on the domestic, becoming in turn an increasingly feminized institution. Woodhead argues that at first this served the church well, aligning it with a newly dominant middle class, which used sexual sobriety to differentiate itself from both aristocratic debauchery and proletarian incontinence. But it did not fit the church well for the sexual...
Unlike Irigaray, Kristeva does not challenge the necessity of the Oedipus complex for the development of socialized subjectivity, which means that she also accepts the necessary masculinity of the subject of the symbolic order (see Grosz 1989 63-9).6 Through the intervention of the father in the early mother-child relationship, the child achieves the separation required to become an individuated subject, modeled on the paternal example. But for Kristeva, the masculine subject is a less stable and coherent entity than the social order acknowledges, and the cost of sustaining the illusion of a unified, unambiguously masculine self is too high. While Irigaray argues that the move towards a transformed social and sexual ethic will come about through the sexual differentiation of culture and discourse, Kristeva argues instead for the internalization of difference through an acceptance of the idea of the divided and self-alienated subject. She finds in Freudian psychoanalysis a rich...
He helped to write a petition for the Christian Medical Association challenging RU-486, the infamous abortion pill. Because of Dr. Hager's pro-life views and promotion of abstinence before marriage, the left-wing political machine went into overdrive, with strong support from feminist pressure groups such as the National Organization for Women (NOW) and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Their strategy was to discredit Dr. Hager's competency as a medical doctor and characterize him as a right-wing religious fanatic. This fed into the false stereotype that devout Christians-even those who are professional scientists-are somehow at odds with empirical science, which is decidedly not the case.
Certain groups such as Planned Parenthood and SIECUS (the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States) have feverishly lobbied Congress to accept the dogma that safe sex training and condom-based sex education are not only best for children, but are supported by the majority of parents. Recent polling data, however, show the opposite parents don't buy the canard that abstinence education is unrealistic nor that comprehensive sex education is the better choice. Dr. Janice Crouse, in describing the new data, says that previous polling data from these lobbying groups were based on deception and dishonest interpretation.
What were these stones to commemorate And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. Joshua 4 21, 22.
Most of the catacombs in Rome were outgrowths of family crypts. In other words, the members of affluent families gradually converted to Christianity and then (mainly after 313) donated their crypts to the church. Thus, for example, elements of the original pagan hypogea from the second and third centuries can still be identified today in several catacombs, a particularly impressive example being the second-century hypogeum of the emperor Vespasian's niece Flavia in the Flavian family crypt in the Domitilla catacombs. Most such family crypts were decorated with conventional pagan funerary motifs that were unlikely to offend family members who were Christian converts. Pre-Constantinian Christian paintings are found there only rarely. The catacomb of Callistus originated in the early third century by connecting two formerly separated private hypogea with transversal corridors. The idea underlying this new burial area was revolutionary in that it was church-owned, and as such it is...
So it was till then there came Our Command and the oven gushed forth (water like fountains from the earth). We said Embark therein, of each kind two (male and female), and your family, except him against whom the Word has already gone forth, and those who believe. And none believed him except a few. (Ch 11 40 Quran)
