One problem with our current view is how did someone get saved under the old covenant, since we know that no one can be saved by works of the law as we see by these verses following.
Hebrews 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
So knowing this, how could someone be saved in old testament times, before the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Under the Law, the old covenant, no one could be saved. And if the new testament has not taken effect, then how can anyone be saved? We read in Romans 4 as follows.
2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
