Not By Might Nor By Power

Laying the foundation stone in Zion is in figurative language the same as setting the King on the Holy Hill. The same figure is seen in Zechariah 4.

Zechariah 4:6-7

6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.

7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

Here the headstone is the same as the Chief Cornerstone mentioned in Ephesians 2:20. The great mountain mentioned in verse 7 is Mount Zion and Zerubbabel is a type of Jesus; and the one bringing forth the headstone is the Father. Notice now that the text says this great mountain shall become a plain. This is a figure of the judgment on Zion mentioned in Micah 3.

Micah 3:12 Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

The mountain being made low is seen in Isaiah 40 preparing the way of the Lord.

Isaiah 40:3-4

3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:

To tie all this together, Mt. Zion is judged and made level as a plain, or fallow ground being plowed, to prepare the way of the Lord. The Lord is the headstone, and he is the King being set in place on the Holy Hill. So the judgment coming is really a blessing because it is the Kingdom of God coming here on earth. He is the head of the body.
