Armageddon

The account at Karnak of these various wars, copied from the daily records of the scribe who accompanied the army on its campaigns, serves to provide from Egyptian historical sources considerable additional light on the identity of the historical David, and to show how the events of his reign were adapted by Hebrew scribes to fit the reign of a tribal chief who lived five centuries later. They include the significance of the battleground Armageddon how Jerusalem came to be known as the city of royal David how David and all the house of Israel brought up the Ark boat of the Lord to Jerusalem with shouting, and with the sound of trumpets (II Samuel 6 1) and the origins of the name Zion, which has not been found in any historical source and makes its first appearance in the Bible as soon as we learn of King David's entry into Jerusalem David took the strong hold of Zion the same is the city of David (5 7). 1 shall now examine these important points in greater detail. enemy stand outside...

Arab Christianity under Islam

Socially and to comprehend the intellectual and religious differences that separated them from themselves. They were also guided by statements about Christians attributed to the Prophet, his HHadith, which exerted almost as much force in practical terms as the Our'an itself. Among the many thousands of statements that were accepted as incontrovertibly attributable to him appear such strictures as Jews and Christians should be excluded from Arabia followers of the cross will go to hell on his return at the end of the world Jesus will smash the cross to pieces.

Heavenly Sanctuary Needs Cleansing

But the words are there and we cannot ignore them. Something needed to be cleansed in heaven, and the blood of Jesus accomplished it as He ministered in the most holy place. We know it was done in the second apartment because of the next verse, Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. Hebrews 9 25,26. These words declare that Christ is now fulfilling the ancient shadow that occurred every year on the Day of Atonement in Israel. That was the solemn ceremony called the cleansing of the sanctuary. It constituted one of the most important ministries ever carried out in the tabernacle. As Paul indicates in Hebrews, it had to be done each year by the high priest. It was the only day of the year that anyone could go through that veil...

Atonement Ministered Behind the Veil

Himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Hebrews 9 24-27.

The consummation of the Kingdom

Yet Jesus also most emphatically declared that the disciples were not to know precise times for the fulfillment of their expectation, and that not even he knew the day or the hour when the consummation was to come, but only God. Nor can we be sure to what extent his disciples, in remembering and handing on his sayings, expecting as they naturally did the early termination of history, misread the mind of Jesus and put together words of his which he had not intended to be interpreted in this fashion. We, too, may well misunderstand sayings in which imagery has a large part. A notable instance of this is the passage in which Jesus foretold the destruction of Jerusalem and appeared to conjoin it with the end of the world. That the destruction of Jerusalem was imminent any clear-headed man of the time must have seen. Seething resentment against Roman rule was obviously soon to break out in open revolt. Fanatics believed that God would intervene on behalf of his people, but Jesus was too...

The Terminal Generation

And when He Who spake unto Moses, the Word of the Father, appeared in the end of the world, He also gave this commandment, saying, But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another Matt. 10 23 and shortly after He says, When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place (whoso readeth, let him understand) then let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes Matt. 24 15 . Knowing these things, the Saints regulated their conduct accordingly.

Here are the main points of the story

The great battle in the first part of Chapter 10 is a figure of the Battle of Armageddon, the second coming of The two keys to seeing this allegory are these. A. To see Gibeon as Israel, and B. to see the battle for Gibeon as the Battle of Armageddon. Once you have this, the rest falls into place. And the upshot is the understanding that the Church needs to stand with the people of Israel, and support their right to exist as a nation. This of course does not mean we have to agree with everything the government of Israel may do.

Third to Fourth Centuries

In the fifty years following the Severans, the fabric of the empire frayed. Barbarian invasions, depopulation, civil wars, and natural disasters led the emperors to attempt to restore the traditional forms of worship in order to win the favor of the gods. The emperors variously termed themselves reparatores, restorers, or conservatores patriae, preservers of the fatherland. In this period, a certain fear took root, that Christians were too active in all levels of the imperial government and that the old religion was being abandoned in favor of Christianity, to the empire's detriment. Under the emperor Philip (244-249 C.E.), coins issued in celebration of Rome's millennium (247 C.E.) bore the inscription Roma aeterna, eternal Rome. The political ideal of Rome's sacred mission and her aeternitas, eternity, gained momentum, the more so as Philip was considered by some contemporaries to be a practicing Christian. In fact, it was very likely the fear that the steady crumbling of the empire...

The Path To Discovery

For those who have always held that the beast spoken of in this prophecy, has represented the papacy, should not be surprised then, that this most recent fit with the papal record, continues to point to the truth that the papacy is this beast, and that the popes as the beast's heads, is the correct interpretation of this prophecy. It is within this arena that we will see the imminent end of the world.

The Atonement in the New Testament

From what will it be cleansed, or purified Nor yet that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with the blood of others for then must He often have suffered since the foundation of the world but now once in the end of the world hath He appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. Heb. 9 25, 26. For the counterpart of this, in the type, see Lev.16 30.

What Happens When the Church Replaces Israel

Of this list, 3 and 5 stand out especially. If you follow Replacement Theology you get to a point where you teach that God has no end time dealings with Israel at all. You can't explain the prophecies being fulfilled today. You have to argue that the rebirth of Israel in 1948 has nothing to do with prophecy. And you have to explain away a host of other passages and prophecies still remaining to be fulfilled. The battle of Armageddon for example, gets 'spiritualized away' by some writers. Some, called preterists, even go so far as to try and make you think that all of Revelation has already happened and Jesus has already returned Like they say, be careful where you buy a used car

Passages Denoting Limited Duration

Matt.22 22, The care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, the cares of that age or time. Verses 39, 40, 49, The harvest is the end of the world, i.e. age, Jewish age, the same taught in Matt. 24, which some who heard Jesus speak were to live to see, and did see. Luke i 33, And he (Jesus) shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end. The meaning is, he shall reign to the ages (eis tous aionas). That long, indefinite duration is meant here, but limited, is evident from 1 Cor. 15 28, And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. His reign is for ever, i.e., to the ages, but it is to cease. Luke 1 55, As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever, (to an age, aionos.) Luke 1 70. As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began or from an age, (ap aionos)....

What sign had Isaiah given by which Christ might be known as the Messiah

Did the believers of these and other evidences of His Messiaship, expect a sign of His second coming And as He sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be and what shall be the sign of Thy coming, and of the end of the world Matt. 24 3.

Have the sun and the moon been darkened in fulfillment of these predictions

What may be said with reference to the late unusual ocean tempests Burnet, in his Sacred Theory of the Earth, remarks Let us then proceed in our explication of this sign, the roaring sea and waves, applying it to the end of the world. I do not look upon this ominous noise of the sea as the effect of a tempest for then it would not strike such terror into the inhabitants of the earth, nor make them apprehensive of some great evil coming upon the world, as this will do. What proceeds from visible causes, and such as may happen in a common course of nature, does not so much amaze or affright us.

The Worlds Conversion

According to the parable of the wheat and tares, how long do the good and bad remain together The field is the world the good seed are the children of the kingdom, but the tares are the children of the wicked one the enemy that sowed them is the devil. Let both grow together until the harvest and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them. Matthew 13 38, 39, 30. The harvest is the end of the world. Verse 39.

The Montanist movement

A movement quite distinct from both the Gnostics and the Marcionites, but which had wide vogue in the latter part of the second century and persisted for more than two centuries and which brought division in the Church, took its name from Montanus, of Phrygia, in Asia Minor, who flourished in the second half of the second century. Because of the region of their origin, the Montanists were often referred to as Phrygians. They represented a revival of the prophets who were prominent in the first few decades of the Church, a call to Christians to stricter living, and a vivid belief in the early end of the world, in the second coming of Christ, and in the establishment of the ideal society in the New Jerusalem. At his baptism Montanus spoke with tongues and began prophesying, declaring that the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, promised in The Gospel according to John, was finding utterance through him. Two women, his disciples, were also believed to be prophets, mouthpieces of the Holy Spirit....

The Fulfillment of the Promised Blessing to Israel

Jesus Christ, the Jewish Messiah, will return to this earth immediately after the battle of Armageddon, and His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives. (Zechariah 14 4) This marks the beginning of the really GOOD NEWS. Jesus Christ will return to bring complete fulfillment of the Abrahamic Covenant in all its parts.

Digression 9 The Destruction Of

- The heavens and earth mentioned as dissolving in Isaiah 13 refer to the people of Babylon. In a series of statements about Babylon we read that God will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place it shall be as the chased roe they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land (Is.13 13,14). The fleeing away of the heavens and earth is thus parallelled with that of the people. Heb. 9 26 speaks of the end of the world as occurring in the first century A.D. - in the sense that the Jewish world was ending then.

The Final Day of the Lord

Thus we return to the question with which we began this chapter How can we be certain that any reference to the Day of the Lord, the judgment , or Christ's coming is speaking about the end of the world and Christ's Second Coming Since collapsing-universe terminology is used for the judgment of A.D. 70, and because of the tremendous theological significance of that judgment, some have supposed that all eschatological events must have been fulfilled in the destruction of Jerusalem, and that the Second Coming took place then. According to this interpretation (which might be called post-everythingism), we are now living in a neverending limbo era, with literally no prophecies left to be fulfilled. The world will just go on and on, and on and on, until . . . We can now begin to draw some very significant overall conclusions from our study so far. As we saw in the previous chapter, the Last Day is a synonym for the Last Judgment, at the end of the world. Moreover, Jesus declared that those...

Eschatological Dynamics

The dynamic nature of time emerges particularly in conjunction with eschatological ideas. Here once again, it becomes clear that time is primarily understood in terms of its contents, because Old Testament eschatology deals less with the end of the world, time, and history than it does with the end of evil brought about by God's transformation of human beings, society, and nature.70 For this reason, Donald E. Gowan prefers to conceive of the core of eschatology as being spatial rather than temporal, since its central concern is with Zion, God's city, not with a return to the garden of Eden its primary concern is with the realization of the full complexity of

From The Preface To The First Edition

And now I commit this work to the great Head of the church with the prayer that, under his blessing, it may aid in promoting a correct knowledge of his heavenly kingdom on earth, and in setting forth its history as a book if life, a storehouse of wisdom and piety, and surest test of his own promise to his people Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.

Objection 1 Since Evil And Suffering Exist A Loving God Cannot

Perfecta, frail and sickly, had run out of money weeks earlier and had received a small amount of emergency food stamps. She stretched the food by serving only rice and beans with bits of meat for meal after meal. The meat ran out quickly. Then the beans. Now all that was left was a handful of rice. When the overdue public-aid check would finally come, it would be quickly consumed by the rent and utility bills, and the family would be right back where it started.

Will Christ return when the worlds ends

Second Peter 3 10 indicates that Christ will return again when the world ends. Pre-millennialists believe that Christ will return before the millennium mentioned in the Book of Revelation and the world will end a thousand years later. Thus, until Christ returns the end of the world is always at least a thousand years into the future. This view is inaccurate (this is the view that I took in my book which I now correct). The biblical evidence clearly suggests that Christ will return at the end of the millennium and His return will coincide with the end of the world.

How are they described who submit to this unscriptural requirement As

NOTE. - When the mark of the beast is enforced, it will be one of the most critical times the church of God has ever passed through. As is shown from the last few Scripture quotations, the Lord's coming and the end of the world follow close after the enforcement of the mark. The third angel's message, which warns men against the work of the beast and his image, becomes to the present generation one of the most important concerns of this life.

The Great Beast and the Final Conflict

Collective level we are compelled by the demiurgos and archons and by dark and hostile forces. According to Gnostic teachings, the forn, .r seeks to maintain the status quo and the latter seek to upset the balance and lead toward- chaos and destruction. In this mix, there are a so divine forces seeking to enlighten and liberate humanity from i s bondage to the demiurgos and the violent inclination. Thus, as mil h as the climax of an internal conflict, Armageddon is also viewed as a final confl'ct within human consciousness between cosmic forces.

St Athanasius On the Incarnation [31

Well, finally we've gotten to a place in Revelation where everyone's agreed, right The new heaven and earth - that's to be literal, referring to eternity after the end of the world, right Wrong. Or, to be absolutely precise, I should say Yes and no. The truth is that the Bible tells us very little about heaven just enough, in fact, to let us know we're going there. But the primary concern of Scripture is the present life. Of course, the blessings of the final chapters of Revelation do refer to heaven. It is not really an either or kind of an issue. But what is important is that these things are true now. Heaven is a continuation and perfection of what is true of the Church in this life. We are not simply to look forward to these blessings in an eternity to come, but to enjoy them and rejoice in them here and now. John was telling the early Church of present realities, of blessings that existed already and would be on the increase as the gospel extended and renewed the earth. This...

B What Do We Mean by Eschatological

A second issue raised by this inventory of Second Temple Jewish expectation is the extent to which or sense in which we can speak of this expectation as 'escha-tological'. This term has bewitched and befuddled the quest of the historical Jesus for a century. The Greek word eschaton clearly denotes 'end'. But end of what The assumption since Schweitzer has been that what was in view was 'the end of time, the end of history, the end of the world'. That would be fine, if the expectation were clearly and consistently for a heavenly, eternal existence. But

Evidence of Classical Sources51

These men were probably distinguished by their manner of preaching - messianic, apocalyptic, charismatic, even demagogic - threatening hellfire and end of the world that seems to have been a peculiarity of Biblical prophets. (One may see their kind in America even today, where it is big business. A few of them have their own television shows.) Our best guess is that preachers of this kind were known to outsiders as 'Christ' or 'Chrestus' just as we now use the term Yogi to mean one who practices Yoga - or claims to - and not any particular individual. All these - a whole tradition - was later made by Christian scribes to coalesce into a single personality identified with Jesus. A fuller study of the Qumran material now made available by the Huntington Library might help bring more such Christ Chrestus personalities to light.

Icons in orthodox churches

Tians assumed that the Second Coming of Christ was near and that the world would soon come to an end. The Second Coming is the belief that Jesus will return at the end of the world to create a new heaven and a new earth. Until the fourth century the church formally celebrated only Sundays, Easter, and Pentecost holy days related to the redemption of humanity. As Christians began to accept that the world had not come to an end and was unlikely to come to an end any time soon, they also accepted as a reminder of ideal Christian life on earth a calendar of feast days that had been developed informally. By the Middle Ages each day of the year honored a saint, an event, or a religious reality such as the Trinity.

The Millennial Ezekiel Temple

In the Millennial Age, the first task for the surviving Jews will be to bury millions of dead bodies. These are the bodies of people who will die during the great battle of Armageddon, just before the return of Jesus Christ. (Revelation 16 14, 16, Ezekiel 39 11-16) It will take seven months to bury all of the dead in the land of Israel.

Role Of Demons In Starting Religions

DEMONS- The highest ranking Satanists teach their children that the demons are aliens from other planets. Within the Satanic covens one variety of demons looks like E.T. (but also can have more hair) are common and they serve as guardians. Also a grey type of demon with almond eyes associated with UFOs is also working closely with the high ranking Satanic Illuminati. The first rumblings of Satanic plans to use a mock alien invasion from outer space to unite the world under Satan's rule were given to the Satanists in the 19th century, perhaps at a Feast of the Beast in possibly 1868. After the next Feast of the Beast 28 years later, UFOs began appearing in large numbers in the USA esp. Calif. H.G. Wells novel War of the Worlds was published in serial form the following year too. By 1917, the secret occult fraternities show signs of working toward creating this artificial alien invasion. The UFO phenomena is accompanied with a. repeated accounts by abductees and contactees that...

The Awaited One A Common Hope

New Testament Christians expected that the Lord's coming was to bring the general resurrection of the dead, the doomsday of judgement for all, glorious salvation for the elect, the damnation of the reprobate, and the transfiguration of the world. Various elements fed these vivid hopes of an imminent end and or coloured the way they expressed it images from the OT prophetic and apocalyptic books, dramatic scenarios from intertestamental literature (which were written around the time of Jesus but never became canonical books of either the OT or the NT), urgent words Some twentieth-century scripture scholars made much of the difficulty NT Christians experienced in adjusting their expectations and recognizing that the Lord's final coming might be indefinitely delayed. It was even argued that Luke wrote his Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles to help early Christians to cope with the embarrassing delay in the end of all things. What strikes many other scholars, however, is rather the ease...

The Intermediate State

NOTE. - If one continued in consciousness after death, he would know of the promotion or dishonor of his sons. But Job says he does not know this, then if, as stated in the last text quoted, in death one loses all the attributes of his mind, as love, hatred, envy, etc., it is plain that his thoughts have perished, and that he can have nothing more to do with living objects. Again if man in death prolongs his powers of thought, he lives and if he lives he must be somewhere. Where is he Is he in heaven, or in hell If in either place immediately after death, what is the necessity of a judgment in the end of the world to decide his case Is there a possibility that some have at death gone to the wrong place, and must needs be sent to the other, after having been in bliss or torment for ages, perhaps

Prophetic and Revivalist Premillennial Adventism

A year later in 1826 Irving was introduced to the views of Manuel Lacunza a Spanish Jesuit who wrote a book under the pseudonym of Juan Josafat Ben-Ezra, allegedly a converted Jew, entitled, 'The Coming of the Messiah in Glory and Majesty'. Lacunza interpreted all but the first three chapters of the Book of Revelation as describing apocalyptic events about to happen. Irving was so excited by Lacunza's speculations, he mastered Spanish in order to translate and publish the work in English.67 Irving added a 203 page preface to the translation in which he presented with great conviction his own prophetic speculations about the end of the world, predicting, the apostasy of Christendom, then subsequently the restoration of the Jews and finally the imminent return of Christ.

Measures by the Incumbent Firm to Raise Rivals Costs

Tion that fear infiltrated late medieval Christianity wherein, as some authors contend, fear of death, judgment, the end of the world, and Satan, permeated late medieval religion, provoking anxiety about salvation and an agitated spirit.''11 It is more likely that this feature of human life created a cyclical level of demand elasticity among the faithful. In short, the vagaries of human life were an exogenous feature of the demand for assurances of eternal salvation. During less perilous times, such as when the Black Death and other plagues waned during the later medieval period, demand became more elastic as death became less immediate, which allowed Christianity to be portrayed as a doctrine of God's mercy and love. Later, when Protestantism mounted a serious challenge to the Roman Catholic monopoly, repression and damnation returned to vogue. The emphasis on hell and damnation was, observationally, an attempt to make the demand for salvation more inelastic for Catholics. This...

The Collapse of the Visigothic State and the Islamic Conquest

The Hispano-Romans followed the general pattern of Mediterranean agriculture cereal grains (wheat and barley), grapes, and vegetables grown in irrigated fields in the Ebro Valley and the Eastern littoral.(27) What is clear is that the entire economy was in a state of profound disarray and agriculture was ruined as result of a series of natural disasters beginning in the seventh century. Perhaps we can accept at the root of this string of bad harvests, famine, and plague Ignacio Olague's theory of a general climatic shift in the western Mediterranean world, beginning in the third century A.D.,which had the result of making the climate drier and hotter and which reached crisis proportions in the high middle ages, forcing a greater dependence on irrigation agriculture in North Africa and Spain.(28) Medieval chronicles noted famine and plague in the reign of Erwig (680-686), when half the population was said to have perished. Plagues of locusts were reported. There can be no doubt that...

Jepthahs return as a type of the Second Coming

At the end of the age, Jesus brethren, the people of Israel will be attacked by all the nations of the world, leading to the battle of Armageddon. Then they will seek help from their God. They will repent and acknowledge him as their Lord and Messiah. They will make Him their head, saying Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. And He will come and fight their battle for them. And the Lord, His Father, will deliver His enemies into His hand.

Three things must happen

When Israel realizes she does not have the strength of America behind her, she will be frightened. That's when she will turn to the Messiah for deliverance. That's when the Messiah will come. Then, the church will meet Jesus in the air, and He will bring them back with Him to the Mount of Olives. At that time the battle of Armageddon will be fought. At the end of the Tribulation, the battle of Armageddon, His return to his people will depend on the removal

Why must these powers of heaven be removed And what does this result in

Because these powers make up the veil of spiritual blindness, and removing them removes the veil. Once this phase of the judgment is complete, the veil will be gone from over the nation of Israel. She will still be facing all her enemies coming to the battle of Armageddon. But then she will see clearly her need for Jeshua her Messiah and call upon him for deliverance in the day of trouble. Jesus will already be on the way, having heard the prayer before it was made.

He Comes To Avenge The Blood Of His Servants

At any rate the death of the church is what's required to trigger God's vengeance. This vengeance comes first on the powers of heaven. These are the men who sought his death, and when they are out of the way, this removes the veil of spiritual blindness from Israel. As Israel repents, the final condition for Jesus' return is met and He comes to fight their battle for them at Armageddon.

Q Does Hebrews 928 contradict the theory that Christ has already returned twice in the clouds of heaven

Heavens no This verse means Christ would appear a second time bringing salvation but not bearing sin. He clearly brought salvation once when he died on the cross. The cloud comings were merely signs of when to watch for the end of the world and had nothing to do with salvation. At the end of the world Christ will appear the second time bringing salvation.

The Glory Of The Lord

The world, in which glory was constantly breaking through from the majority of Christians already in heaven to those still on earth. The contact of Christians in this world with the saints was no wistful sentimentality but a practical awareness of their united life in Christ the saints lived in the 'seventh age' of the world which was thought to run concurrently with the sixth or present age from the birth of Christ until the end of the world both would find their culmination in the eighth and last 'age', the day of the Lord.

Archaeology and the Book of Exodus Exit From Egypt

Archaeological Proof King David

Other scholars prefer a southern route, pointing to evidence that they feel demonstrates that yam suph may mean sea at the end of the world, as some conceive it to have been. Says theology professor Bernard F. Batto What we call the Red Sea was regarded by the ancients as the sea at the end of the world. Interestingly enough, the Greeks applied the name Red Sea not only to our Red Sea but also to the Indian Ocean and, later when they discovered it, even to the Persian Gulf . . . Yam sup came to refer to the Red Sea because like other ancient peoples, the Israelites did not distinguish the Red Sea from

The Reformation and Puritan Attitudes toward the Jews

In His Apocalypsis Apocalypseos, meaning, 'A Revelation of the Revelation', Brightman taught that the Turkish empire would be brought to an end followed by 'the calling of the Jews to be a Christian nation,' leading to 'a most happy tranquility from thence to the end of the world'. In 1635 he completed a commentary on Daniel 11-12 which he sub-titled, 'The restoring of the Jewes and their callinge to the faith of Christ after the utter overthrow of their three enemies is set forth in livelie colours.' Brightman not only believed the Jewish people would come to faith in Jesus Christ, he was also convinced of 'the rebirth of a Christian Israelite nation' which would become 'the centre of a Christian world.'52

Popular Cultures Congenital Defects Tertullians de Spectaculus

In the second century Christians were a common scapegoat when plagues, barbarian invasions and natural disasters struck. To bring an end to such calamities, a provincial or imperial decree would typically be issued, dictating that all inhabitants must offer sacrifices to placate the gods of the empire. Many Christians would refuse, the public would

Q Where is authority for the proposition that Christ would return multiple times

In 14 16 John describes Christ reaping the earth. This description of Christ appearing in a cloud might have been his second and final appearance had the world ended in either AD 149 or AD 1149. This is why John describes it as a possible harvest of the earth-- when the world would end. However, since the world didn't end the appearance of Christ in Revelation 14 14 follows the expiration of the times of the Gentiles. The end of the world is still well into the future.

When are the Righteous Rewarded

Jesus assured the people of His day, thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just (Luke 14 14). Again, He said, For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels and then he shall reward every man according to his works (Matthew 16 27). There is no equivocation here. In simple, direct language lesus declared that no one would be rewarded until the resurrection takes place at His second coming. This means that none of the righteous dead have gone to heaven so far. All are waiting in their graves for the judgment and the end of the world. Almost the last words of the Bible confirm this fact. And, behold, I come quickly and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his works shall be (Revelation 22 12). This last-day reward is further described by Paul in 1 Corinthians 15 53, and this mortal must put on immortality. When does it happen In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump (Verse 52).

Reading the Signs of Islam

The Hour will be preceded by a series of natural disasters as well as the breakdown of human society and the natural and normal order of things. There will be wars and civil wars 'Isa will fight the Islamic anti-Christ, al-Dajjal and Gog and Magog, semiotic indicators of chaos par excellence, will be loosed to foster mayhem. The MahdI will appear.522 each claiming to be the prophet of God (rasul Allah) there will be earthquakes and disorder (al-harj) people will build high structures and people will be unable to eat or taste the food which they raise to their mouths.524 There will be many other signs of the approaching Hour, but the emphasis in al-Bukhari's scenario on fire, war, lies, earthquakes, civil disorder and an inability to taste (or eat) are semiotic indicators that the days preceding the end of the world will indeed be dire, appalling to man and beast alike.

ReThinking The Millennium

All this happens after Jesus returns and fights the battle of Armageddon. This passage clearly illustrates that Satan is bound for a thousand years, and that the saints live and reign with Christ for a thousand years. Since there is a definite point when Satan is bound, it seems that the thousand years begin at this point, just after Jesus' return.

Why The New World Order Created Billy Graham

The Jehovah's Witnesses' Watchtower and Awake magazines in the 1950s began to report on Billy Graham's crusades. Billy Graham's message about Armageddon and the Millenium is so similar to to the Watchtower Society's, that they like to quote him. Billy Graham has been warning that many experts project that man will not live to see 2000. 70 The ultimate goal of Freemasonry and those bringing us a One-World-religion is power. Their program has been to infiltrate leadership and recruit the clergy whenever possible. Consequently, you will not hear Billy Graham warn you about Freemasons. 33rd degree Mason Billy Graham does tell us that a New Age is coming. His tract is titled A New Age Is Coming- is suggestive of the New Age of Aquarius, having a rainbow on the tract's cover. However, the inside declares the New Age to be a Bible concept. The inside is about a Millenium and an Armageddon that Graham believes will soon be here.

Punishment Or A Final

The very next day, my work took me to a local civil defense headquarters. My assignment there was just to assist technicians on the other end of a circuit. So I had a bit of time to kill waiting for them to do something on their end. The room I was working in had many dozens of books and manuals on the shelves. A certain curiosity got hold of me, a Spirit led curiosity as it turned out. The first manual I looked into was a collection of materials from an emergency preparedness course.

Benhadad King Of Syria

There was a prophecy given in 1911 that shortly an evil would take Russia, and wherever this evil would go, rivers of blood would flow. It was not the Russian soul it was not an ideology or a philosophy, but a spirit from hell. In the last days, the prophecy went on to say, Germany would be divided Italy would be judged by natural disasters France would be nothing much Britain would lose her empire and come almost to ruin, but would be saved by praying women the U. S. would feed the world and be the greatest power, but would finally be reduced. In the end Russia would be free and believers would go forth from Russia and China taking the Good News to all the earth before the antichrist.

What judgement is Jesus talking of here

This judgement takes place after the tribulation and Jesus defeats Antichrist at the battle of Armageddon. It is generally called the judgement of the nations, although in fact it will be individual people who will be judged because Jesus separates them from each other into sheep and goats (CP V32-33). The sheep represent those individuals who will go into the eternal kingdom (CP Joel 3 2, 12 Zech 14 16). The goats represent those who will be cast down to hell (CP Rev 14 9-11). All nations who will be gathered before Jesus in Mt 25 32 are the gentiles who survive the tribulation. Their judgement takes place prior to Christ setting up His millennial reign on earth, to determine who of them will go into the millennium. The basis of the gentile's judgement will be their failure to extend mercy to the Jewish believers during the tribulation (CP Mt 25 34-40 with 41 -46). Although the application of this teaching is toward the gentiles who survive the tribulation, the teaching is relevant...

The Coalition of Religious and Political Zionism

You know, I turn back to the ancient prophets in the Old Testament and the signs foretelling Armageddon, and I find myself wondering if-if we're the generation that is going to see that come about. I don't know if you've noted any of these prophecies lately, but believe me they certainly describe the times we're going through.283

Forms of Discourse about Globalization

The reason for caution lies in the way in which, again and again, history gives examples of economic transformation coming to a stop and instead turning into a slow, inexorable process of decline, for a variety of cultural and political reasons (Landes 1998). The first example comes from the fact that the European economy, and especially that of Russia, went into reverse after 1914, initiating a series of protectionist economic policies, civil wars, and ultimately a total breakdown of economic relations, which finally created the global catastrophe of World War II. It took many years to recover from the catastrophe, so that only since the 1990s have politicians and academics begun to use the language of world trade and international relations common before 1914. A second example is that of fifteenth-century China, where the state controlled technical progress. The Ming dynasty (1368-1644) prohibited overseas trade for over a century. The country's lead, built up over several...

Eschatology and Science

Despite the much described eschatological revival during the twentieth century and its accompanying flood of books, articles, and essays, it appears that the relationship of eschatology and science has hardly been a topic of discussion until now. Bibliographies at the end of encyclopedia articles or in monographs allow us to conclude that, whenever eschatology has sought dialogue partners outside of its traditional field, it has generally turned to philosophy, occasionally to social ethics, and in some cases even to ecology, but hardly ever to the traditional natural sciences.97 It seems curious how, in one book after another, theologians can speak rather objectively of the end or consummation of the world without ever seriously asking what the future of the universe is likely to look like from the scientific perspective.98 The book edited by John Polkinghorne and Michael Welker entitled The End of the World and the Ends of God Science and Theology on Eschatology99 sparks the hope,...

Q Do the 42 months of Revelation 112 encompass the times of the Gentiles

The times of the Gentiles are not mentioned in this verse. The 42 months noted in the verse do not in any way contradict the theory that the times of the Gentiles noted in Luke envisioned 2,000 years. The passage discusses the treading under foot of Jerusalem by the Gentiles. The 42 months correspond to the roughly 3.5 year periods noted throughout Revelation 11-13. I believe the author was describing circumstances he felt would exist during the 3.5 years preceding the end of the world. The presence of Gentiles in Jerusalem is but one of them. The treading under foot by the Gentiles simply means the presence of Gentiles in Jerusalem, which has been true for over 2,000 years. History reveals that Jerusalem has been tread under foot by Gentiles for far longer than 3.5 years.

Why will Christ come a second time

But how is He coming, and why In Matthew 24 He gives us the sobering answer. Responding to the disciples question, about the time of His return and the end of this age of man, Jesus laid out a frightening scenario that includes widespread religious deception, warfare, famines and devastating natural disasters. All these, He told them, are the beginning of birth pains that will usher in this new age to begin at His return (verse 8, NIV).

What the Messiah is Supposed to Do

If we do not merit the Redemption when the deadline comes, if we have not repented by then,it will happen in stages. It will take longer to happen, and there will be no or few open miracles. And there will be war first. Hashem will cause a king as evil as Haman to pass laws against us, and he will oppress us until we repent. And to destroy us, he will set into motion the war of Gog and Magog, which you may have heard of under the inexplicable name of Armageddon.

The Testimony Of Paul

Part of the verse, who are said to be constituted righteous, through the obedience of Christ, must mean ALL MANKIND, from the beginning to the end of the world, without exception. See his commentary on the place. The evident sense of the passage is this For as the many, that is, the whole bulk of mankind were made sinners, so shall the many, that is, the whole bulk of mankind, be made righteous. What can be plainer than this fact We agree with the authors of the Improved Version, who say, Nothing can be more obvious than this, that it is the apostle's intention to represent all mankind, without exception, as deriving greater benefit from the mission of Christ, than they suffered injury from the fall of Adam. The universality of the apostle's expression is very remarkable. The same many who were made sinners by the disobedience of one, are made righteous by the obedience of the other. If all men are condemned by the offense of one, the same all are justified by the righteousness of the...

Christ Will Accomplish His Mission

For as hoi polloi, the many, in the first part of the verse, does not mean some of mankind only, but all mankind, from first to last, who without exception are constituted through the disobedience of Adam sinners so the many in the latter part of the verse, who are said to be constituted righteous through the obedience of Christ, must mean all mankind, from the beginning to the end of the world, without exception.

The Case of the International Bible Students Association

Jehovah's Witnesses and ex-Jehovah's Witnesses will be surprised to see my account of Armageddon differing from the prevailing viewpoint on various points. It is quite extraordinary to suggest that Jehovah's witnesses would fight during Armageddon, especially since they have built up such a public reputation for being conscientious objectors. 3. The WT Society is anticipating a military attack upon themselves during Armageddon.4 4. The WT Society's literature does make statements that do include the JWs in the fighting at Armageddon. These statements are on the record, in spite of other WT statements to the contrary.5

Bill Somers Prophetic Vision

Re 16 16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. Now all these scriptures in Joel, Zephaniah, Zechariah, Revelation (and many other places) speak of the great battle of Armageddon. This is because Revelation 16 16 identifies the site as Armageddon. It is sometimes called the vale or valley of Megiddo in the old testment. What puzzled me is why is it called the valley of Jehoshaphat in Joel. This could be because valley of Jehoshaphat was another name for Megiddo, but I could not find any reference saying this was so. Or it could be that the battle that Jehoshaphat fought in 2nd Chronicles 20 was fought at Armageddon. But we read in 2 Chron 20 20, Now the wilderness of Tekoa is roughly the opposite direction from Armageddon, so that's not it. So I was still quite puzzled about this, being unable to figure it out by myself. Then the Lord in his mercy showed me that it was a tip-off. A Clue Joel refers to this taking place in the valley of...

Bishop Hilarion Alfeyev

On the other hand, Church writers paid close attention to the fearsome and alarming events which, according to the New Testament, will precede Christ's second coming. The theme of the Antichrist (cf. 2 Thess 2 8, 1 Jn 2 18, etc.) was particularly developed in Eastern patristics. In the patristic tradition, the term 'Antichrist' points to the main enemy of Christ and the Church, 'who shall come at the end of the world'5 in order to deceive the entire world and turn people away from the true faith. The main characteristics of the Antichrist will be apostasy, resistance to God and the desire to pass himself off as God.6 St Paul writes that 'the mystery of iniquity doth already work' (2 Thess 2 7). The war of the Antichrist against Christ began at the moment of Christ's first coming but the final battle, vividly described in the Apocalypse, will take place at his second coming. The second coming of Christ will mark the completion of world history yet this completion is not a tragic and...

Love and the Individual Abelard and Bernard

Second account is after the fall and expulsion from Eden, some of the early church fathers viewed sexuality as a consequence of sin or at least a development simultaneous with the fall. Further weight was added by Paul's views in 1 Corinthians 7 ''It is well for a man not to touch a woman'' (7 1) ''it is well for them unmarried and widows to remain unmarried'' (7 8) but on the other hand ''it is better to marry than to be aflame with passion'' (7 9). Marriage is not a sin (7 28 & 36), but refraining from marriage is better (7 38). Paul's views were formed in light of his expectation of the imminent end of the world (7 26-31). But Paul's ''situational ethic'' of sexual relations was missed by the early and medieval church which no longer lived in Paul's context, and thus his contextual reflection became a normative devaluation of sexuality. The linking of sin and sexuality - original sin now becoming the first sexually transmitted disease - with the concomitant effort to remove eros...

The 20th Century Revival of Christian Zionism

This particular kind of reading of history, coloured by a literal exegesis of selected biblical scriptures, is dualistic, dogmatic, triumphalist, apocalyptic and confrontational. Lindsey's last but one book, The Final Battle, includes the statement on the cover Never before, in one book, has there been such a complete and detailed look at the events leading up to 'The Battle of Armageddon.'254 Lindsey confidently asserts that the world is degenerating and that the forces of evil manifest in godless Communism and militant Islam are the real enemies of Israel. He describes in detail the events leading to the great battle at Megiddo between the massive Russian, Chinese and African armies that will attempt but fail to destroy Israel. He and others like Louis Goldberg, a professor of Theology and Jewish Studies at the Moody Bible Institute, offer detailed illustrated plans ostensibly showing future military movements of armies and naval convoys leading up to the battle of Armageddon.255...

Prophecy And Historiography

Yet a third prophetic division of history became popular from the twelfth century. Rupert of Deutz wrote a biblical commentary, On the Holy Spirit and his Works, at the beginning of the century, in which he works his way through Scripture in order, pointing to the seven days of creation as the age and work of God the Father the seven ages of the world from the Fall to Christ's passion as the age and work of the Son the seven gifts of the Spirit at work in the period from the Incarnation to the last Judgement during the age of the Holy Spirit. This schema of three status or ages reappears with fresh interpretations in the work of Joachim of Fiore at the end of the twelfth century and the beginning of the thirteenth. In Joachim's scheme, the age of the Father covers the period during which mankind lived under the Law, that is, the Old Testament era then began the age of the Son, lived under grace, to last as Joachim thought for forty-two generations, each of about thirty years. The...

The secular apocalyptic

As it has resituated itself in popular culture, the apocalyptic has held onto the doom elements but has sometimes loosened its grip on the hope for a redemptive outcome. As Daniel Wojcik has noted in his assessment of the secular apocalyptic, especially as it has developed since the end of World War II Instead of faith in a redemptive new realm to be established after the present world is annihilated, secular doomsday visions are usually characterized by a sense of pessimism, absurdity, and nihilism.7 Wojcik finds the apocalyptic surfacing in such diverse places as cold war military preparations, beat poetry, monographs of doom by social scientists and environmentalists, cosmic disaster novels and movies, doomsday humor, and survivalist and punk subcultures. In all of these artifacts, a story is being told about the world falling to pieces, but in the absence of divine benevolence and purpose, the pieces won't be put together again. For Tyler, Eden will rise from the rubble of cities...

The First Resurrection

Second, however, this is not a bodily resurrection. John gives us a clue that he means something special by calling it the First Resurrection. What could this mean We saw in a previous chapter that there is only one bodily resurrection, at the end of the world. To find the answer, we again go back to Genesis, which tells us of the First Death And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, 'From every tree of the Garden you may eat freely but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you shall surely die' (Gen. 2 16-17). As we know, Adam and Eve did not actually die physically on the day that they ate the forbidden fruit. But that was the Day of their Spiritual death, their alienation from God. This Spiritual death was inherited by the children of Adam and Eve, so that we all are born dead in trespasses and sins (Eph.2 l). The First Death is this Spiritual death. And thus the First Resurrection is Spiritual as well

The Sanctuary Cleansed in 1844

But just as surely as He fulfilled the type of the daily ministry in the holy place, Christ also must fulfill the example of the most holy place mediation. Paul wrote Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation (Hebrews 9 25-28). Do not overlook the connection of that word judgment with what Jesus does in the most holy place. He did not need to go in every year but only once in the end of the world. His work of cleansing the heavenly sanctuary of the record of sin was absolutely necessary to

Appendix B George Washingtons Vision

And all the people, they will turn towards Israel. That's when the war of Armageddon will be. He said that Israel will be frightened. They will not have the help from America no more. And then they will call upon the Messiah. That's when the Messiah will come. In the help of Israel.

Reason 4 God Makes Sense of the Resurrection

The fourth fact is that the original disciples suddenly and sincerely came to believe that Jesus was risen from the dead despite their predisposition to the contrary. Jewish beliefs precluded anyone's rising from the dead before the general resurrection at the end of the world. Even so, the original disciples suddenly came to believe so strongly that God had raised Jesus that they were willing to die for that belief. New Testament scholar Luke Johnson said ' Some sort of powerful, transformative experience is required to generate the sort of movement earliest Christianity was.'32

These Events Have Occurred

Campbell, Clarke, Wakefield, and Newton(54) translate the phrase, end of the world (sunteleia tou aionos) conclusion of the age, end of this dispensation. The question was, then, what shall indicate thy second coming and the end of the Mosaic economy (aion) When shall all these things be fulfilled Mark 13 1, 34. He spoke of the temple (Luke 21 5, 7,) saying one stone should not be left on another, and the question of his disciples was, how shall we know when this is to take place The answer is, Ye shall hear of wars. 24 6. Ye shall see the abomination of desolation. 15. Pray that your flight be not in winter. 20. The adverbs Then and When connect all the events related in the two chapters in one unbroken series. And what infallible token did he give that these events would occur then Matt. 24 34. Verily I say unto you this generation shall not pass tillall these things be fulfilled. The Background To The English Civil

Historians disagree as to whether the English Civil War should be seen as the last European war of religion or the first European revolutionary movement, presaging the French Revolution of 1789. A case can be made for each interpretation, in that at least some of their elements were unquestionably present. For our purposes, the importance of the English Civil War is that it set one form of Protestantism against another within a single nation, bringing about a major crisis of identity within the movement.8

Reasons for this research

The Palestinian Christian community has, especially since 1948, suffered isolation, discrimination and persecution in a way that some describe as a form of apartheid or 'ethnic cleansing'. They are presently caught between three forms of religious fundamentalism, a Moslem fundamentalism which regards them as traitors to the Arab cause a Jewish fundamentalism which perceives them as a 'fifth column' and impediment to the realisation of a 'Greater Israel' and a Christian fundamentalism which is infatuated with Zionism and is, in the words of Don Wagner, 'Anxious for Armageddon,'167 unable to comprehend why Christian Palestinians do not support the State of Israel against the perceived threat of Islam. 16 Hal Lindsey, The Late Great Planet Earth (London, Lakeland, 1970) The 1980's Countdown to Armageddon (New York, Bantam, 1981) Israel and the Last Days (Eugene, Oregon, Harvest House Publishers, 1983) The Road to Holocaust (New York, Bantam 1989) Planet Earth 2000 A.D. The New World Society

The Governing Body has so much control that they have convinced JWs that the Watchtower Society never prophecied that 1975 would be the end of the world and Armaggeddon. The Watchtower Society's financial operations are totally secret. Some rumors have circulated that the WT Society is one funnel for money laundering. JWs would never believe that their Society and their Governing Body could ever do such a thing. Indeed the Governing Body has almost a godlike image with the rank and file Jehovah's Witnesses, which they have promoted through their slick propoganda.

Capturing By Using Fear

CUT is a New Age Religion designed to catch the conservative elements, that would shun most New Age groups. CUT preaches against Communism, the Feminist Movement, Abortion, Drugs, the Trilateral Commission, the Bankers, and uncontrolled immigration from Mexico. It is in favor of survivalist tactics, political activism, wearing business suits, and looking clean cut. If one looks at where they have concentrated their activities one notices they have worked in some very conservative western areas, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Arizona. (California is also an important center of activity but hardly a bastion of conservatism.)

The augmented power of the Papacy and Gregory the Great

In purgatory as disciplinary and cleansing, and that masses for the souls in purgatory are a help. For Christians this side the gate of death masses and the aid of the martyrs and saints are also to be sought, not that they ensure forgiveness, but because they aid in the discipline which the Church prescribes for those who repent of post-baptismal sins. Gregory also wrote extensively on angels and demons, systematizing what was generally believed in the circles of his day. He gave to both an hierarchical arrangement. He thought that the end of the world was at hand.

What will be the sign of Christs second coming and the end of this present age

Mt 24 28 refers to the dead bodies of Antichrist's army slain by Christ at Armageddon. The eagles refer to vultures which will be gathered together to eat the bodies (CP Eze 39 17-20 Rev 19 11-21). Where two people are together the ones taken in Mt 24 40-42 are with Antichrist and will be among those slain at Armageddon (CP Lu 17 34-37). Those who are left behind will go into the millennium - the thousand years reign of Christ on earth - to replenish the earth at that time (CP Zech 14 16 (see also comments on Mt 25 31-46)). It will take the Jews seven months to gather up and bury all the dead bodies that are left after Armageddon, and seven years to gather up and burn all the weapons of war (CP Isa 34 2-3 Eze 39 9-16). There are three parables in Mt 24 the parable of the fig tree in V32-34, the parable of the goodman of the house in V43-44, and the parable of the faithful and wise servant in V 45-51. The core teaching in all these parables is faithfulness, preparedness and...

Water Baptism

Some Churches have even discarded baptism altogether. They are in grave error. Whoever discards baptism might as well discard the Bible and disregard every other one of Christ's commands as well. Jesus has commanded the Church to baptize repentant sinners in the same breath virtually as He told us to get them saved, and He has not repealed either of those commands. To say that baptism is not valid for today is to say that neither is salvation, and that scriptures are meaningless (CP Mt 28 18-20). Jesus qualifies the life-span of His commands to the Church by adding, and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. That means Christ was not only speaking to the apostles for their era, but to Christians throughout the whole of the Church age. Jesus has commanded all Christians of all eras to help build His Church. We are to get sinners saved, baptize them, and teach them to obey all that Christ has commanded us,

Dust Of The Earth

Beecher(48) remarks that the sense of endless given to the aionian phraseology fills the Old Testament with contradictions, for it would make it declare the absolute eternity of systems which it often and emphatically declares to be temporary. Nor can it be said that aionios denotes lasting as long as the nature of things permits. The Mosaic ordinances might have lasted at least to the end of the world, but did not. Moreover, on this principle the exceptions to the true sense of the word exceed its proper use for in the majority of cases in the Old Testament aionios is applied to that which is limited and temporary.

The Antichrist

A further error teaches that the Antichrist is a specific individual connected to this is the notion that he is someone who will make his appearance toward the end of the world. Both of these ideas, like the first, are contradicted by the New Testament. Third, antichrist was already working as John wrote even now many antichrists have arisen (1 John 2 18) I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you (1 John you have heard that it is coming, and now it is already in the world (1 John 4 3) many deceivers have gone out into the world. . . . This is the deceiver and the antichrist (2 John 7). Obviously, if the antichrist was already present in the first century, he was not some figure who would arise at the end of the world.

Not everyone watches

In 1 Peter 4 7 Peter states that the end of all things is at hand be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. The problem is that the Greek word for watch here is not the same word Jesus used in admonishing some to watch for his coming. This word is translated as sober in other passages. Peter was not advising his readers to watch for the end of the world rather he was merely describing the lifestyle they should lead. Likewise, in 2 Peter 3 8-13 Peter describes the end of the world, yet he never admonishes his readers to watch for it. In Luke 21 33-36 Jesus uses the pronoun ye in warning people to watch for the end of the world. The ye in this case was directed toward that existing generation whom he mentioned in Luke 21 32. That generation was to watch for the end of the world in AD 149.

The Exodus

The leadership, prominent theologians and popular preachers of the end of the twentieth century totally reject the Enlightenment, forgetting that the very existence of the Greek Orthodox Church, or indeed of the Greek state, is owed to it. Furthermore, they reject the premises of the Enlightenment and yet they refuse to be reunited with the mother Church of Constantinople, which now they see as an opponent and an enemy. In 2004 there was a major crisis in relations between the two Churches that almost led to a complete schism and virtual excommunication and this sad development was thwarted only after the political intervention of the Greek state, which now acts as the moderator of the social theatrics of bishops and priests.

Conclusion

On the Last Day, at the end of the world, Jesus Christ will return to resurrect all men for the Judgment, both the righteous and the wicked. Those Christians who are still living at the Second Coming will be raptured to join the Lord and the resurrected saints in the Glory-Cloud, where they will be transformed, fully restored into the image of God.

The Bad Cast Away

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. So shall it be at the end of the world, the angels shall come forth and sever the wicked from the just and shall cast them into the furnace of fire there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Matt.13 47-50. The furnace of fire and gnashing of teeth will be fully explained, as also the end of the world, or age (aion) in subsequent parts of this book. The material universe, this world (kosmos) is never spoken of as ending, but it is always the aion, or age, the end of which is announced. The field is the world, kosmos, v.38, but the end of the world, when the harvest comes, v. 39, is aion. The age ends, but not the world.

Subject

The subject of the Revelation thus was contemporary that is, it was written to and for Christians who were living at the time it was first delivered. We are wrong to interpret it as if its message were primarily intended for a time 2000 years after John wrote it. (It is interesting - but not surprising - that those who interpret the book futuristically always seem to focus on their own era as the subject of the prophecies. Convinced of their own importance, they are unable to think of themselves as living at any other time than the climax of history.) Of course, the events John foretold were in the future to John and his readers but they occurred soon after he wrote of them. To interpret the book otherwise is to contradict both the scope of the work as a whole, and the particular passages which indicate its subject. For us, the great majority of the Revelation (i.e., everything excluding a few verses which mention the end of the world) is history it has already happened. This may be a...

The Judgment

Daniel's visions concerning Christ's second coming, included one of this judgment seat in the form of a throne (Dan. 7 9-14). The parables help to flesh out the details somewhat. That of the talents likens it to the return of a master, who calls his servants and assesses how well they have used the money which he had left them (Matt. 25 14-29). The parable of the fishermen likens the call of the gospel to a fishing net, gathering all kinds of people the men then sat down (cp. the judgment sitting) and divided the good fish from the bad (Matt. 13 47-49). The interpretation is clear At the end of the world the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just.

Gods Two Witnesses

There are many fictional books and movies about apocalyptic events that result in massive destruction on earth. The source of such destruction is generally portrayed as man-made, the result of natural disasters, or sometimes, the result of invasion from beyond this earth. This NON-fiction book reveals a combination of all three sources, ending in massive destruction of most of this earth, including most of its population. These events are occurring exactly as these books describe. Yes, through time, natural disasters have resulted in great destruction and loss of life. The difference is, that now, we are at the beginning of the final events which will culminate in the end Over the centuries, people have seen natural disasters and predicted that man was in the end-times of Bible prophecy. But throughout time, they have been wrong. The Bible has much to say about such times, therefore, it has been a natural consequence that these religious people have made such predictions. The...

The Last Battle

The Bible does not teach that absolutely everyone in the world will be converted. The symbolism of Ezekiel's prophecy suggests that some areas of the world will remain unrenewed by the River of Life (Ezek. 47 11). And we know that both the wheat and the tares will grow together until the harvest at the end of the world (Matt. 13 37-43). At that point, as the potential of both groups comes to maturity, as each side becomes fully self-conscious in its determination to obey or rebel, there will be a final conflict. The Dragon will be released for a short time, to deceive the nations one more time in a last-ditch attempt to overthrow the Kingdom (Rev. 20 7-8). The purpose of Revelation 20 is not to give a detailed outline of the end of the world, for that does not fall within the scope of the book. Revelation was written to tell first-century Christians about things which were to happen shortly, especially dealing with the Church's struggle against the Beast, the False Prophet, and the...

Olethron Aionion

In the New Testament the history of the world is conceived as developed through a succession of aeons. A series of such aeons precedes the introduction of a new series inaugurated by the Christian dispensation, and the end of the world and the second coming of Christ are to mark the beginning of another series. Eph. 1 21 2 7 3 9,21 1 Cor 10 11 compare Heb. 9 26. He includes the series of aeons in one great aeon, 'o aion ton aionon, the aeon of the aeons (Eph. 3 21) and the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews describe the throne of God as enduring unto the aeon of the aeons (Heb 1 8). The plural is also used, aeons of the aeons, signifying all the successive periods which make up the sum total of the ages collectively. Rom. 16 27 Gal. 1 5 Philip. 4 20, etc. This plural phrase is applied by Paul to God only.

In England as on the continent the refugee question had left its mark. The Dissenting divine and hymn-writer Philip Doddridge was the grandson of a Bohemian refugee and had a hot line to Johann Adam Steinmetz of Teschen who had Doddridge's Family Expositor translated into German as an antidote to Moravianism. Huguenots gathered round Wesley and were thickly clustered in parts of the East End and old West End of London where his work had begun. In the French-speaking Perronet family he picked up victims of Swiss High Orthodoxy. Among the Palatines, who had been planted in the south of Ireland early in the eighteenth century, Wesley found an almost Silesian situation. Deprived of their church, but clinging to the Luther Bible, the Palatines in Ireland rallied enthusiastically to him, and they later took their Methodism to America. The British shared with their co-religionists abroad a fear of'atheism', and a panic at the prospect of a final Armageddon between Catholic and Protestant,...

The Last Days

The terms last days, end of the world, etc. found in connection with judgment, are made very clear to the careful reader of the Bible. The words last day, last days, etc., refer to the closing of the Mosaic dispensation, and not, as is often supposed, to the final closing up of mundane affairs. Peter demonstrates this, by applying the words of Joel to what was then transpiring, Acts ii 16 20, But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel, And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your

One lodge system that is overtly satanic is The Golden Dawn. In their publication Watch Jerusalem in 1948 they tell readers that Armageddon is to happen during the 1990s.7 In another publication, they tell us The Aquarian Age is already upon us and it, too, is radiating a most powerful influence. The Aquarian Age will be in full power all through the coming Millennium. In fact, right now it is preparing the way for the Millennium, the THOUSAND YEARS OF PEACE.8

We Which Are Alive

This is a difficult and much debated passage. Paul was clearly implying that some of those Christians who were alive in his time would actually witness Christ returning at the end of the world. I believe Paul was actually describing reincarnation in this passage. Some Christians alive in his day would naturally witness Christ's return if reincarnation occurred. For a more detailed discussion of this controversial doctrine see the link on the home page to my reincarnation article.

Really Sacred

The Bible clearly answers these questions in the negative. Every available source of information reveals that in religious matters, at least, the majority has always been wrong. Jesus Himself said, And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man (Luke 17 26). Only eight people went into the ark to be saved from the flood. Christ taught that only a comparable few would be saved at the end of the world. Said He, Enter ye in at the strait gate for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it (Matthew 7 13, 14). Yet, allegory is a method of reading literature that has the Bible as its centre. The four levels of medieval exegesis, constructed over long years in order to contain the greater flights of fancy, have an extraordinary appeal about them. The names of the four levels - literal, allegorical, moral and anagogic -conjure up the richness of a vast history of interpretation. The allegorical level takes a first step by using the figure of Christ to render the meaning of the Hebrew Bible in Christian terms. Once this move is made, in which the Hebrew Bible refers to Christ himself, one can move to the life of the believer, the moral level, in which stories of the Hebrew Bible as well as the life and death of Christ refer directly to the individual life of faith. Finally, the ana-gogic level returns to the collective, although now in terms of the history of the people of God from creation to the end of the world. It seems to me that this extraordinary schema is the quiet partner to Benjamin's...

This is common knowledge that disaster is everywhere. Its in the streets, its inside your campuses, and it can even be found inside your home. The question is not whether we are safe because no one is really THAT secure anymore but whether we can do something to lessen the odds of ever becoming a victim.
