In the early 1520s, Martin Luther's and Huldrich Zwingli's theology rapidly spread by way of sermons, theatre plays, and especially its dissemination by pamphlets, the new medium ofthe day.7 Mass was replaced by the 'pure gospel' (das reine Evangelium) in form of sermons, and justification purely for the sake of the Creed usurped the sacraments and the 'good works' (dieguten Werke). The new message was that no priests were necessary to achieve eternal salvation
